Reporting to the Director, Planning and Real Estate, this position oversees the strategic planning of all spaces at NAIT, while ensure existing spaces are optimally used and future infrastructure projects are aligned with the institution's strategic vision.

Key Responsibilities

Developing and implementing a comprehensive space planning framework that aligns with NAIT’s strategic goals and objectives. Collaborating with various stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, and community members, to gather input and ensure their needs and preferences are considered in space planning processes. Leading the optimization of space to meet the current and future needs of a highly engaged community. Identify current and future trends and best practices related to space needs for all space types including classrooms, laboratories, offices, and recreational facilities. Developing and maintaining space inventories, domino plans, functional space programs, and other space management tools to provide functional spaces to all users. Overseeing the allocation and utilization of campus space, including coordinating moves and relocations in alignment with strategic direction and domino plans. Collaborating with stakeholders across NAIT to ensure that our campuses are designed and maintained in a way that promotes a welcoming, safe, and secure environment. Promoting best practices in strategic campus planning, space optimization, and incorporating them into the institution's planning efforts. Manage space planning projects with a focus on stakeholder engagement.

Skills & Abilities

Ability to think critically and strategically about the long-term goals and objectives of the institution and develop a comprehensive space planning strategy that aligns with those goals. Capacity to lead the analysis of data related to space utilization and other relevant factors to inform strategies. Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, and community members, to gather input, build consensus, and ensure their needs and preferences are considered in the planning process. Skills in developing a Functional Space Program. Effectively manage multiple projects, including coordinating with various stakeholders, overseeing budgets and timelines, and ensuring successful project completion. Effectively communicate complex concepts and strategies to a variety of audiences, including senior leadership, faculty, staff, and community members. Understanding of current trends and best practices in campus planning, including sustainability, accessibility, and innovative learning environments, and the ability to incorporate these into the strategic planning process. Capacity to navigate and manage change within the institution, including implementing new campus planning initiatives and overcoming resistance or challenges that may arise. Ability to lead and motivate a team of professionals, delegate tasks, and provide guidance and support to ensure the successful execution of key initiatives. Capacity to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities as needed to meet the evolving needs of the institution.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a degree or diploma in architecture or related program. 10+ years experience in space planning, architecture, and project management. Demonstrated ability to lead, support and mentor a planning team and work together to achieve individual and team goals. Able to effectively communicate, coordinate and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders internal and external to NAIT. Proven experience to maintain strategic alignment between institutional priorities and other space usage policies and guidelines. A demonstrated commitment to valuing differences, willingness to listen to stakeholders, and ensuring diverse perspectives are heard. Excellent oral and verbal communication skills. Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS). Remuneration: Refer to salary range noted on posting, plus a comprehensive benefits package.

The compensation range for this job posting is : $104,678.38 - $138,682.55
