We are looking for a Head Coach to join our dynamic team in a part-time role (30 hours per week). As the Head Coach you will ensure the development and delivery of World Class programs and camps to nearly 10,000 participants per year. Our programs and camps use the long-term athlete development model and focus on building fundamental movements for ages 3-15 years old. The position will provide leadership, training, ice/ court instruction and coaching support to the instructor team. You will oversee the structure, execution and enhancement of all existing programs and camps and will have the opportunity to create new ones! A large focus of this position will be our seasonal Learn to Skate programs and camps. This will include an emphasis on staff management, administrative duties and communication skills with clients. Your goal will be to provide the best programs and camps in the lower mainland!

Key Responsibilities:

    • This position includes a minimum of 20 hours of on-ice instruction per week
    • Oversee and lead on-ice instruction of ice programming, including on-ice client assessments and 1:1 coaching
    • Oversee development and execution of camps including on-court instruction based on the objectives of the specific programs as well as Long Term Athlete Development Model/Sport for Life
    • Manage on-ice training and daily schedules for the instructor team, ensuring the highest standards of delivery are met (enthusiasm, customer service, passion, communication, etc.)
    • Participate in the planning and execution of engaging and progressive training sessions for a staff of 60+ employees
    • Conduct seasonal on-ice/ on-court evaluations for instructors and provide specific feedback on performance and areas for improvement
    • Promote programs and communicate program/camp goals and sport pathways to the Oval community at promotional events
    • Complete day-to-day administrative tasks (complete schedules, generate class lists, fill out report cards, communicate with clients)
    • Provide input and recommendations to the Sport Programmer or Camps Programmer regarding program operations and overall team functionality
    • Execute all programming and planning in accordance with the annual budget
    • Research and order equipment for camps and programs
    • Ensuring consistency of quality instruction across all programs and camps
    • Oversee private lesson schedules, communicate schedules to parents and collect payments
    • Maintain a high standard of customer engagement by establishing strong customer relationships with all stakeholders to enhance their overall program or camp experience
    • Champion program policies including refunds and late registration

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

    • Minimum 2 years experience as a sport instructor for athletes ages 3-15, delivering on-court, on-ice and off-ice instruction for fundamental movement and skating skills.
    • Completion of, or in progress of completing the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP)
    • Be available for all on-ice coaching sessions
    • Sound background and knowledge in skating is required. Additional knowledge in Hockey, Figure Skating, or Speed Skating is an asset
    • Staff management experience is an asset
    • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot with quick decision-making capabilities
    • Must be able to successfully complete a criminal record check
    • Standard First Aid Certificate is required
    • Basic computer knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Excel and Word is an asset
    • Other Sport experience is an asset
    • Safe Sport education must be completed within 3 months of start date if you are the successful candidate.

Availability:

This role oversees and leads the on-ice instruction of our Learn to Skate program. Applicants should be available for the following instruction hours:

    • Tuesday: 3:00pm-7:00pm
    • Thursday: 3:00pm-7:00pm
    • Saturday: 8:30am – 2:30pm
    • Sunday 8:30am – 2:30pm

During winter break, spring break and summer (July and August) applicants should be available during daytime camp hours from 8am-4pm.

Salary and Benefits - $37,150 - $46,663 per annum
