Department Information

The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

Job Information

As a Regional Administrative Assistant you will report to the Regional Superintendent of the South Slave Hay River Regional Office. This position is responsible for administrative support, front counter receptionist services as well as assembling, recording and reporting regional road conditions for public and government advisory services The incumbent will also provide secretarial and clerical services to the Regional Superintendent and other senior staff to support the administrative requirements of the Region.

The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for this position are:

  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures to provide effective typing, clerical and administrative assistance in a variety of support areas.
  • Good interpersonal and oral communication skills to deal with the general public, department staff, vendors, and contractors when responding to a high volume of walk-in and telephone inquiries.
  • Good articulation and enunciation skills are required for recording the road report. Good written communication skills to prepare correspondence, presentations, and reports, from hand written drafts or brief instructions and to ensure accurate spelling and grammar in completed work.

The above Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required are:

  • Grade 12 Secondary School diploma and the completion of an office administration program and 3 years of related experience.
  • A valid Class 5 Drivers license is required.

Equivalencies may be considered based on a one-year of directly related experience equivalent to one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

  • Degree in Business Administration and 1 year of related experience.
  • Grade 12 diploma and 5 years of related experience.
