About the position
Reporting to the Manager, Internal Audit and Compliance, you will collaborate with the Internal Audit Department in optimizing benefits, protecting corporate assets and ensuring the reliability and accuracy of financial data. The incumbent will examine and assess financial and operational controls and procedures, submitting comments and recommendations on the activities examined. S/he must also assist the department in conducting audits of operational and commercial procurement contracts. The Auditor will review the activities of all sectors to determine if procedures, plans, policies and rules are being met.
Responsabilities
Complete audit assignments under supervision, including the following:
- Participate in audit project planning, including initial interviews with clients, developing process descriptions, and identifying risks and controls;
- Test control design and effectiveness, clearly and concisely documenting results and conclusions;
- Identify and communicate control and process improvement opportunities (effectiveness, efficiency, cost savings, etc.);
- Perform follow-up testing as required;
- Conduct SOX compliance testing;
- Conduct advisory work as requested;
- Use analytical procedures in evaluating potential risks and conducting testing in order to more efficiently and effectively address risks and identify potential financial exposure;
- Understand and help integrate technology in projects to gain efficiency;
- Help prepare written reports on audit results.
Qualifications
- Have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- Hold a CPA or be in the process of obtaining it or other relevant qualification (e.g. CIA, CISA).
- Have at least 2 years’ experience in auditing and/or internal controls
- Must be bilingual French/English
- Be an excellent team player and communicator
- Be self-directed, solution-oriented and know how to take the initiative
- Be able to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Applicants must be available to travel occasionally to other Valero sites (10%).

The individual in this position will be required to review documents and interact both verbally and in writing with colleagues at the head office in Texas or in other Canadian provinces, or with various stakeholders such as customers, suppliers, unilingual anglophone business partners.
