This is a full-time permanent position, with the opportunity to learn and grow. The successful candidate can expect a Living Wage based salary of $54,307 annually.

Position Overview

The Warehouse Associate is a key player in ensuring the smooth flow of operations at the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. This role combines hands-on warehouse experience with leadership in volunteer engagement, making it essential to both the efficiency of our food distribution system and the positive experience for our volunteers. This role oversees volunteer-oriented tasks while ensuring day-to-day duties of the warehouse are accomplished. The Warehouse Associate will accomplish this by efficiently handling, organizing, storing, and retrieving goods using a variety of warehouse equipment, including electric pallet jacks, counterbalanced forklifts, and reach trucks. This position ensures accurate and efficient movements of product are done, maintains warehouse cleanliness and inventory integrity, and acts as an ambassador of the GVFB by fostering a positive volunteer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet volunteers warmly and professionally, and train and supervise teams of volunteers in tasks such as sorting, program bag building, order building, produce packing and typical housekeeping duties.
  • Identify, prioritize, and delegate tasks to volunteers effectively based on the needs of the day.
  • Use volunteer management software to track volunteer hours.
  • Use a variety of warehouse equipment including counterbalanced forklifts, reach trucks, and electric pallet jacks to efficiently store and retrieve palletized goods.
  • Pick, palletize, wrap and stage product accurately, as needed.
  • Ensure warehouse and coolers are kept clean, organized and always rotated.
  • Uphold best practices in food safety and safe operation of machinery.
  • Assist in shipping and receiving duties, accurately recording all product movements in the warehouse’s digital inbound/outbound system.
  • Support both locations of the GVFB as necessary.
  • Support other GVFB teams with product movements, staging, and inventory.
  • Assist in process or procedural changes as necessary.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Personal Attributes and Core Skills

  • Ability to safely and efficiently operate warehouse machinery.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with GVFB staff and volunteers both in-person and through written correspondence in a professional manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to comfortably and effectively run technology systems such as Windows Suite, SharePoint, and Apple OS.
  • Strong planning, time-management, and resource allocation skills.
  • Ability to deal constructively with challenges and consistently provide a solution-oriented approach.
  • Flexibility in working in an ever-changing environment where priorities can shift rapidly.
  • A positive, can-do attitude!

Qualifications and Experience

  • 1+ years of experience in professionally interacting with the public (e.g. customer service, volunteer management).
  • 1+ years of experience in prioritizing and delegating tasks in a fast-paced professional environment.
  • 3+ years of effective warehousing experience with the ability to identify and solve tasks as needed.
  • 3-5 years of industrial machinery experience in a high-density pallet racking environment.
  • Ability to hold tickets for and safely operate reach trucks, forklifts, and electric pallet jacks.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams and iOS (iPhone).
  • A BC Class 5 driver’s license and ability to provide 3 years insurance claims history and 3 years clean driver’s abstract is an asset.

Physical Requirements

  • Exposure to ambient temperatures and noisy conditions.
  • Proper safety footwear required.
  • Bending and lifting boxes up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to physically and safely operate manual and electric pallet jacks, reach trucks, and forklifts.
