Job Summary

The Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie University is a small research-intensive campus located in Truro, NS. Offering technical, undergraduate and graduate programs in agriculture, environment and related life and social science disciplines, the Faculty of Agriculture (FoA) educates future leaders and generates knowledge and innovative solutions for healthy, sustainable societies. Reporting to the Associate Dean, Fujian Agricultural and Forestry University (FAFU) International College (IC), the Facilitator will handle the day-to-day management of the college including finances, personnel, physical resources, and contract fulfillment in association and collaboration with FAFU counterparts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and coordinate budgetary documentation to meet Dalhousie and government requirements. Facilitate proper accounting for international financial transactions. Coordinate and facilitate financial reporting, statements, and other data as required for FoA financial statements.

  • Support the Dean’s office regarding strategic planning, project management, risk management, compliance assurance, finance/budget, human resources, information technology, etc. Regularly report to Dean’s office and other relevant Dalhousie stakeholders.

  • Coordinate with FAFU offices in China to ensure the requirements of Dalhousie, FAFU and the Chinese government are met. Ensure compliance with the cooperation agreement, Charter, and relevant policies, plans, and university regulations. Address non-compliance with relevant parties, escalating as required.

  • Prepare risk register on activities and travel. Make recommendations for mitigating risk for faculty mobility. Monitor, update and regularly report on the FAFU risk register. Ensure appropriate controls are implemented to support short- and long-term plans.

  • Prepare faculty and staff to visit and work in China and, when in China, serve as resource during their integration into China and, as required, for the entirety of their stay. Ensure travellers are fully supported in all aspects of working at the IC.

  • Work with the FAFU administration and the FoA to ensure all teaching requirements laid out in the college agreement, Charter, and other applicable documents, and required by the Chinese government, are met or exceeded.

Note

When working within Nova Scotia at Dalhousie’s Agricultural campus, the successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

The successful applicant must also be willing and able to travel to, live, and work in-person on campus in China for extended periods of up to four to six weeks at a time for a total of six months per year.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration plus approximately three to five years relevant experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).

  • Experience working in an international environment/office, including collaboration with organizations/offices located in China.

  • Experience with stakeholder management and project management.

  • Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, diplomacy, and communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills.

  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, multi-tasking and organizational skills.

  • Proven ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, with minimal supervision.

  • This position requires regular international travel. so a valid passport is required.

Assets

  • Experience working in a post-secondary education setting.

  • Chinese language skills (verbal and written).

  • International accounting experience, related to international employment.
