Senior Director, Communications – Studios, Rights & Corporate
Blue Ant is seeking a strategic and seasoned communications leader to lead its global communications across Blue Ant Studios, Rights (including Consumer Products & Licensing), and Corporate. The Senior Director will lead integrated communications strategy and execution across the enterprise, strengthening Blue Ant Studios’ global industry profile, advancing executive visibility, and supporting business growth across production, distribution, and rights. The role serves as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and oversees internal communications staff and external agency partners across key markets.
This is a new role which will report to the Chief Marketing & Communications Officer and is a hybrid position requiring in-office attendance at our head office in Toronto for a minimum of three (3) days per week. The anticipated salary range for this role is $120K-$150K per year, with final compensation determined by experience and qualifications.
Core Responsibilities & Duties
- Develop and lead integrated, results-driven global communications strategies across Blue Ant Studios and Rights (including Consumer Products & Licensing).
- Build and strengthen the global industry profiles of Blue Ant Studios and Rights across priority markets, including the U.S., U.K., and other key territories.
- Serve as a senior communications advisor to executive leadership across Studios and Rights, providing strategic counsel on both internal and external communications.
- Develop clear and differentiated corporate and studio messaging frameworks that support business growth, IP expansion, and long-term brand equity.
- Lead global media relations efforts, including corporate announcements, executive appointments, greenlights, renewals, international sales, co-productions, licensing deals, partnerships, awards campaigns and other strategic initiatives.
- Shape and oversee announcement strategies, including drafting and approving press materials, op-eds, executive statements and written interviews; manage release timing, media targeting and stakeholder coordination.
- Prepare and counsel senior executives and producers for media interviews, keynote addresses, panels, investor-facing engagements and industry appearances; oversee development of presentation materials and talking points.
- Identify and secure high-impact speaking opportunities, sponsorships and visibility at major global markets and industry events (e.g., MIPCOM, Realscreen, film festivals, and content markets), ensuring alignment with brand and business priorities.
- Lead issues and crisis communications planning and response across Studios and Rights, developing protocols and guiding executive decision-making during sensitive or high-profile situations.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with global trade, business and consumer press, as well as with broadcast, platform and production partners’ communications teams, talent representatives and publicists.
- Support the CMCO on Corporate Communications initiatives and media relations.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Distribution Sales, Business Affairs, Marketing/Creative, HR and international partners to ensure cohesive and aligned storytelling across the organization.
Qualifications and Experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, media relations or public relations within media, entertainment, production, distribution or consumer IP businesses.
- Strong relationships with television trade, consumer, and business media.
- Experience serving as a trusted communications advisor to senior executives.
- Demonstrated success executing global communications strategies across multiple markets.
- Experience managing and developing high-performing teams and agency partners.
- Exceptional writing, storytelling and executive communications capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple high-profile initiatives in a fast-paced, global environment.
- High degree of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
