The location in Skookumchuck, British Columbia, Canada, is seeking talent to fill the position of Shift Supervisor. This job is full-time permanent.
The Supervisor of Operations has the authority to execute on behalf of the Company all area responsibilities for safety, quality, fiscal accountability, assets and continuous operation of production processes while effectively leading and directing the hourly workforce, in alignment with the organizational goals and objectives.
Safety, Environmental & Quality
• Ensures compliance with OHS and organizational safe work practices and
policies.
• Responsible for all aspects of safety and housekeeping pertaining to crew
and their jobs.
• Conducts regular safety and housekeeping inspections and daily crew talks
in addition to Monthly safety meetings.
• Maintains adherence to environmental responsibilities.
• Ensures product quality meets on grade standards.
• Maintains all documentation for compliance and due diligence
requirements.
Operations & Key Job Accountabilities
• Responsible for optimum process quality and maintaining operating targets
as per established operation procedures.
• Overall responsibility for the mill on nights and weekends.
• Co-ordinates maintenance work to be completed on the shift.
• Co-ordinates process changes to meet defined specifications, ensuring
continuity between the Chip Handling, Main Mill, Steam and Recovery and the
Finishing Line/Warehouse.
• Allocates pulp produced during their shift as per “Allocation of Pulp to
Orders” procedure.
• Continuously monitors the process so that all required operating
functions are carried out within the guidelines of good practice and/or
government codes and so that energy and chemical usage is minimized.
• Ensures crew is trained, competent and provide the tools and resources to
perform their assigned duties. Schedules training as required
• Maintains adequate reports and files for all areas of responsibility.
• Having to Oversee Extra Maintenance People In On The weekend for Jobs
That Require Weekend Work.
Employee Relations & Customer Satisfaction
• Leads, directs, and co-ordinates the shift operating crew and shift
maintenance personnel to meet production throughput, quality targets, safety
performance, environmental compliance, government regulations, and insurance
requirements are satisfied.
• Ensures policies are enforced, workplace is orderly, implementation of
change is effective and timely, impact on other departments is communicated
ahead of time.
• Provides employees with initial and ongoing mandatory job training.
• Coaches,develops, motivates and leads Operators to perform their duties
to the best of their abilities.
• Responsible for crew scheduling and employee performance issues
• Maintains close contact with maintenance personnel so that all repair
work, planned or breakdown, is completed with a minimum of lost production.
• Practices progressive discipline program with open, honest and
constructive communication.
• Documents and reports on any exceptions during his / her tour of duty,
for lost production, off-quality, operating cost, environmental, safety or
labour upset, etc.
• Engages hourly employees in operations matters (i.e. operating
procedures, inventory management, etc.)
• Dealing With Conflict Amongst the Crew Personal Issues, Getting to a
Conclusion to Maintain Stability Among the Crew Members
Financial Accountability
• Operates within budgeted guidelines through the preparation, control and
administration of departmental budgets.
• Works to maximize production and quality while minimizing costs.
• Coordinates inter-departmental communication to maintain productivity
within the budget.
• Reports variances or upsets that will affect budget targets.
Staff Management
• Establishes and maintains extensive partnerships and develops a positive
working environment with the team and ensures the team members are empowered,
encouraged, and rewarded for their contributions and performance. Mentors and
guides the team.
• Establishes and clearly defines responsibility for staff on the team and
ensures the ongoing management and support of staff and effective employee
performance.
• Attracts and retains people with key skills with the focus on proficiency
training and career development.
Education / Technical / Experience
• Related Post-Secondary Education combined with two (2) years of pulp
production experience.
Or equivalent combination of education, skills and experience.
• Senior operating experience or prior supervisory experience in the Pulp &
Paper Industry.
• Proven competency in leading and directing a team.
• Strong effective communication skills.
• Competent in the use of computers and applicable technology.
Salary Range - $130,000-135,000 per annum
