About the role
The Opportunity
The Senior Accounting Manager provides financial management and leadership for Retirement Operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and effective team oversight.
Key Accountabilities
Financial Reporting:
- Review monthly property reporting packages for completeness and accuracy
- Oversee all financial regulatory filings with the health funding authorities and government agencies, ensuring deadlines are met
- Monthly reconciliation and review of funded revenue by property including claw back calculations
Policy & Analysis:
- Analyze and communicate new/revised funding policies to Finance and Operations teams
- Set up new accounts in Yardi and prepare mock-up financial statements for reporting
Audit & Budget:
- Oversee annual audits and prepare submissions for funded properties to government agencies
- Coordinate and review property funded revenue operating budgets, collaborating with Finance Operations, Operations Teams, and Strategic Planning & Analysis
Documentation & Training:
- Update documentation for training General Managers, Director Operations & Sales regarding funding
- Maintain records of all funding-related revenues by government agency
- Update templates used for funding reporting/calculations
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and recommend improvements in finance department processes related to funding
- Oversee implementation of these improvements
Communication:
- Liaise with Senior Management, Operations, Property Accountants, Finance team members, and various Ministry of Health (MOH) authorities
Other Duties:
- As assigned
People Leadership:
- Recruiting, mentoring, coaching, empowering employees
- Performance review and feedback, recognition, foster teamwork
Department Leadership
- Planning, making decisions, operational, budgetary and financial responsibilities.
Qualifications
Education:
- University degree or College diploma in Business/Finance
- CPA designation or equivalent experience
Experience:
- 5+ years in financial management positions
- 7+ years in accounting/finance roles
- Related industry experience preferred
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and industry-specific accounting principles
- Deep understanding of provincial funding models and policies for Assisted Living health sector
- Strong computer skills (ERP software, Microsoft Office)
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated, creative and innovative
