Department: Master Data Management (MDM)
Location: Oakville, Ontario, Canada (Remote / Hybrid) Reports To: Senior Manager, Data Governance
Position Summary
The Data Steward plays an important role in supporting the organization’s data governance and master data management initiatives. This is an entry-level position suited for individuals who are passionate about business processes, data quality, and continuous improvement.
Working closely with cross-functional teams, the Data Steward will help maintain, validate, and document master data processes to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance across core business systems.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and eager to contribute to building and sustaining a strong data governance foundation that supports efficient operations and informed business decisions. This is a business/finance role, not an IT role.
Key Responsibilities
Master Data Management & Process Support
Collaborate with business stakeholders and data owners to collect, validate, create, and maintain master data across SAP and related systems. Ensure master data supports integrated business processes across Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, Marketing, Commercial, and Finance. Document, load and validate master data as part of the New Product Launch (NPL) process, ensuring compliance with GxP and other regulatory requirements. Support timely processing of routine and priority data requests.
Data Governance & Documentation
Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of data governance processes, SOPs, and a centralized data catalog. Ensure data integrity and consistency across business workflows by documenting end-to-end processes, definitions, and standards. Monitor data quality and assist in tracking key data quality metrics, and identify and escalate data issues or inconsistencies to appropriate stakeholders.
Business Collaboration & Process Support
Partner with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand data requirements such as operational vs. reporting, and process dependencies. Participate in cross-functional initiatives aimed at improving data quality and operational efficiency. Assist in audit preparation and provide documentation support as required. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts related to master data and business processes.
Continuous Learning & Innovation
Expand knowledge of business processes across supply chain, quality management, commercial, and sales functions while ensuring GxP compliance.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Finance, Supply Chain, Operations, Data Analytics, or a related discipline. 1-2 years of experience in business operations, supply chain, quality, data management, or related areas (co-op or internship experience considered). Experience working with an ERP system (SAP preferred; experience with NetSuite, Sage, Oracle Hyperion, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar systems is an asset). Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly document SOPs, workflows, and process maps. Proficiency with advanced Microsoft Excel and other MS office Apps. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Preferred
Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, consumer packaged goods, Finance, or other regulated industries. Exposure to GxP-compliant environments or structured change control processes. Familiarity with foundational data governance concepts such as data ownership, data quality principles, data standards, change control processes, and data documentation.
