Shift Manager – Operations
**Reports to:**Area Manager - Operations
**Job Location:**Nanticoke, Ontario
**Job Type:**Temporary (12-month contract)
**Salary:**S tarting at $47/hour
About the role Stelco has an immediate opening for a Shift Manager – Operations (12-month contract) in the Pickle Lines Department, at the Lake Erie Works facility in Nanticoke, Ontario, Canada. This position is responsible for all functions related to direct management of a well-trained unionized workforce, individual unit performance and compliance with all regulatory legislative requirements. This is an existing vacancy.

Responsibilities
- Administer the Stelco safety program to ensure a safe work environment within the Operating facility;
- Promote safety by various means (safety contacts, safety tours, incident investigations and follow-up, SDS and SJP/SOP review, equipment condition, etc.) and lead by example;
- Ensure adherence to all environmental control procedures and relevant codes and standards;
- Supervise hourly workforce and coordinate all administrative activities pertaining to that responsibility (i.e. performance reviews and related documentation, attendance and conduct administration, annual surveillance medicals, etc.);
- Perform administrative activities such as scheduling and paying employees, completing maintenance and operating reports, conducting safety observations, and compiling other reporting as required;
- Communicate, direct, and facilitate the overall operation of the facility; build constructive relationships; ensure accountability, engage employees, and promote teamwork and responsibility to improve employee morale; and ensure consistent productivity and cost;
- Maintain the condition of operating equipment; troubleshoot equipment failures, and arrange equipment repairs through assigned maintenance personnel;
- Maintain accurate production reporting and delay logs;
- Establish performance goals and objectives with Area Manager.
Education/Experience/Qualifications from
- 2+ years of supervisory experience
- Previous experience in steel manufacturing and heavy industrial is a strong asset
- Post-secondary degree or diploma is an asset
Job Skills and Knowledge
- Sound knowledge of electrical or mechanical maintenance practices and required skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Good interpersonal and leadership skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability and desire to work in a shop floor environment
- Proficient in MS Office
- An enthusiastic approach and ability to learn quickly and assume responsibility
- As a manager/supervisor of the company, qualified candidates for this role also must demonstrate the ability to manage change, communicate effectively, and lead high-performance teams.
Your work environment
- Fast-paced manufacturing environment for a high impact team
- The job is within a heavy industrial environment, and you will be required to work within various areas of the facility
- Safety is our highest priority and safety procedures and guidelines must always be adhered to. This includes wearing PPE, such as a hard hat, protective gear and eye wear, respirator, flame retardant clothing and safety boots with metatarsal protection during the work shift
- Lake Erie facility operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year, this is an in person position
- Work schedule shifts 12 hours, rotating days and nights on a continental pattern
- The position may require you to work overtime as needed
- A valid driver’s license and vehicle is required to work at this facility
