Legal Counsel Role
As a key member of the legal team, the successful candidate will provide timely legal advice on a broad range of legal issues in support of business operations and will report directly to the General Counsel.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide strategic legal advice to business units on the application of relevant laws, regulations, and company policies Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements Manage product safety and regulatory matters, including regulatory filings Manage legal compliance matters, including developing and deploying compliance programs, policies, training, and guidance documents Monitor and report on internal compliance activities Assist with Canadian privacy law compliance, including providing legal support for privacy impact assessments and responses to information requests Monitor legal and regulatory developments and advise business units on compliance and emerging risks impacting the business Support the development, management, and revision of internal policies and procedures Assist General Counsel as needed Additional duties as required KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: LL.B./J.D. and a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario A minimum of five years of relevant work experience as in-house counsel, in a law firm or a combination of both Strong knowledge and experience with corporate/commercial matters Strong technical skills and sound business judgment Strong drafting, negotiation, time-management, and communication skills An ability to work independently, handling complex matters from beginning to end with minimal supervision An ability to build collaborative relationships and work cross-functionally with legal and business partners An ability to provide concise, practical legal advice, while explaining complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders Experience advising on privacy and data governance matters is considered an asset, as is prior experience working with government agencies and/or regulators Note: This posting is for an existing vacancy. The expected base salary range for this position is $170,000 - $190,000. Actual total compensation may include variable incentive pay. The determination of an applicant's base salary is based on the applicant's skills, competencies, location and unique qualifications. Artificial intelligence will be used in sourcing, reviewing and communicating with candidates for this position. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
