Who you are
The Senior Director, International Tax – Advisory & Audits is a key leadership role within CIBC’s Finance function. Reporting to the VP, International Taxation and Transfer Pricing, this role will provide expert guidance on international tax matters, ensure compliance with evolving international tax regulations, and support business initiatives with strategic tax advice. This role requires strong technical expertise in the international tax regulatory landscape, thought leadership, and the ability to collaborate across functions and geographies to ensure effective execution of multi-geographical initiatives in alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements. This role will lead international tax audit resolution in respect of various international tax matters impacting CIBC and its subsidiaries This role will be working closely with both external advisors and internal stakeholders.

How you'll succeed
- Advice, planning and solutions. Deliver specialized advice, planning and solutions on a broad range of international tax matters impacting CIBC and its Strategic Business Units. Develop, implement, and oversee strategies, processes, and compliance for OECD Pillar II, country by country public disclosure requirements and other legislation emanating from OECD BEPS requirements globally. Stay abreast of changes in international tax legislation and administrative practices, proactively assessing their impact on CIBC and communicating relevant updates to stakeholders.
- Tax Planning. Proactively plan for and address global minimum tax requirements, ensuring accurate and timely reporting in accordance with evolving requirements and international standards. Ensure adherence to global tax laws, including BEPS, OECD guidelines, and local regulations. Manage and resolve international tax audits, working closely with internal stakeholders, external advisors, and tax authorities to achieve optimal outcomes for CIBC.
- Project Management. Lead and coordinate tax-related projects, including process improvements and implementation of new tax requirements, ensuring effective execution and stakeholder engagement.
- Stakeholder Management. Collaborate with the tax compliance team to ensure international tax matters are accurately reflected in financial statements, tax provisions, and regulatory filings. Partner with internal business units, finance, and compliance teams to support cross-border transactions and ensure tax risks are identified, assessed, and appropriately managed. Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external advisors, and tax authorities.
- Leadership. Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the international tax function.
Who you are
- You can demonstrate experience. 10 or more years of Canadian international tax work experience with a specialization in outbound taxation. Exposure to the financial services industry is as an asset however, consideration will be given to candidates who have a strong interest and desire to learn the financial services business.Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation (preferably CPA, CA) or Master’s degree in Taxation, tax law, or related field.
- You are designated. Completed Levels I and II of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax. Completion of the In-depth International Tax course is preferred.
- You are detail oriented. Excellent research and analysis. Advanced problem-solving skills and ability to implement the solutions. Results-oriented, self-motivated, proactive and proven ability to work independently. Focused, thorough and disciplined in approach. Decisive, confident and comfortable working closely with and collaborating with business partners.
- You have strong communication skills. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office products plus able to quickly learn new relevant add-on applications if required, e.g., Alteryx.
