Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking a Research Grants and Ethics Coordinator for a Full-Time Continuing opportunity with our Office of Research Services. Reporting to the Director, Office of Research Services, you will monitor external grant submission processes, ensure documentation is managed and recorded, and maintain records of applications and outcomes. The Research Grants and Ethics Coordinator will also maintain research ethics board communications, monitor the ethics submission portal, oversee review of ethics applications, and maintain website resources on research ethics.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the research opportunities database (removing expired opportunities, adding new information, providing content for the ORS newsletter);
  • Monitoring award announcements for various funding agencies and ensuring institutional data is correct within third-party agency sites;
  • Maintaining the researcher database to ensure efficient identification of specialties/expertise of researchers in connection to new grant calls
  • Maintaining the active list of external grant sponsors in the PeopleSoft system;
  • Responding to daily communications through the research ethics inbox and escalates requests as needed;
  • Monitoring research ethics activity, such as receiving and processing registrations for system access, reviewing submissions for completeness and compliance with REB requirements, and triaging applications to the appropriate review route;
  • Supporting committee and meeting management by assisting in member recruitment & appointment, drafting agendas, compiling meeting packages, ensuring quorum, attending REB meetings, and following up on action items in a timely manner, as appropriate; and
  • Overseeing ethics applications by assigning reviewers; ensuring reviewers have provided their feedback by the review date & send reminders; receive, compile, and assess reviewer feedback; provide feedback to researcher and/or request additional changes; review revisions of applications as required; issue approval letters.

  • Effective time management skills, ability to set priorities and work comfortably in a deadline-driven environment;
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills; and
  • Excellent client service skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree (in a research-based discipline).
  • Experience in a university research environment, conducting research in a social sciences or natural sciences field as part of course work or advance research studies, would be preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of related experience, preferably in a post-secondary environment with an understanding of the university research environment. An understanding of major research funding programs in Alberta and Canada. An understanding of human research ethics, and completion of the TCPS-2 tutorial is an asset.
  • Technical skills: Excel (intermediate) Word (intermediate), PeopleSoft (intermediate)
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
