Vice President, Technology Project Management Office

As Vice President, Technology Project Management Office , (TPMO ) you will lead the Project Management Office within Technology, providing strategic direction and governance for all program/project management activities, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and in compliance with Canada Life (CL) policies. The VP will lead a large, centralized team to deliver successful project outcomes at pace, that are aligned to CL’s Technology Strategy.
What You Will Do
- Lead and build a high-performing project management team; provide coaching, mentoring, foster a collaborative and accountable culture, and inspire and motivate.
- Execute, enhance and maintain best-in-class project management practices, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
- Evolve TPMO processes, tools, metrics, and policies ensuring they drive productivity, quality and success; periodically update methodology and frameworks; establish TPMO KPIs to measure improvement
- Act as a thought leader and primary stakeholder for critical program/project planning. Monitor the effectiveness of decisions & outcomes of delivery by establishing KPIs.
- Provide strategic guidance on delivery optimization opportunities to minimize risks, prioritize delivery timelines, cost, and/or the customer experience.
- Develop and provide regular reporting to senior management and regulators as required.
- Work closely with Program sponsors, the Business Program office, Risk, Finance and Technology partners.
- Define, plan, implement, and identify interdependencies, as well as critical risks and issues to enable the achievement of Technology & Enterprise strategic goals.
What You Bring To The Role
- 10+ years experience as a seasoned PMO leader within a business or technology unit, with a track record of delivering large, complex, strategic programs including technology transformation or modernization initiatives
- Innovative mindset, ability to utilize and implement best practices
- Financial acumen; forecasting, budget management, business cases.
- Experience in financial services and working in a regulated environment.
- Experience building, and working in, matrix structures and complex organizations including a demonstrated ability to influence where team members do not report directly into the function.
- Ability to obtain input and implement it through process improvement, methodology and standard changes while remaining customer and technology-oriented
- Demonstrated delivery excellence; strong communicator, collaborator, able to build, grow and foster cross-functional relationships, and establish and maintain credibility with peers, senior executives and internal stakeholders.
- Proven strategic thinking with a longer-term outlook and ability to drive results leading to improved business unit performance
- Ability to attract, motivate and develop talent for tomorrow; to build a strong team with a focus on delivery excellence and meeting Canada Life’s strategic objectives.
