Location: Hybrid - Toronto, ON

Empire Life is looking to hire an Investment Analyst to join our Canadian Equities team!

What you’ll be working on

  • Collect and analyze industry, company and economic information from a variety of sources including websites, institutional research, corporate reports and industry publication
  • Review Annual Reports, Quarterlies and Proxy Statements
  • Conduct regular meetings with management teams of companies both in our portfolio and investment universe
  • Attend industry and company events to gather information such as investors day, company tours and industry conference
  • Analyze financial information relating to companies via annual reports, quarterly reports and investor presentations
  • Write research reports and present to management to assist in key portfolio decision making
  • Construct stock screens using software such as Bloomberg to filter database of companies to identify potential investment ideas
  • Organize all available information and data effectively in order to build and maintain spreadsheet models for both valuation and monitoring purposes
  • Determine both buy and sell targets for companies based on a combination of all the qualitative and quantitative information collected
  • Present investment ideas to the broader Investment Team
  • Keep abreast of portfolio strategy, developments in the Canadian and Global economic and political environment and fluctuations in the capital markets
  • Maintain statistics on the portfolio regarding exposures, company information and valuation parameters.
  • Communicate portfolio positioning ideas to the portfolio managers
  • Perform other special projects related to investment or theme ideas for the Portfolio managers as required
  • Market individual fund management capabilities including making presentations to existing and potential clients

What we’re looking for you to have

  • 2+ years experience in investment research or related positions
  • Completion of a university degree with courses in finance, investments, economics, mathematics, statistics, ethics
  • Experience covering equities in the materials, mining and/or energy sectors would be an asset
  • CFA or working toward designation
  • Well-developed mathematical skills
  • Strong research, financial modeling, risk management and a thorough understanding of various investment valuation concepts
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to plan tactically or plan strategically
  • Attention to detail/accuracy
  • Ability to think logically, analyze and/or solve problems
