About the role
Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant is a key member of the Finance Team supporting day-to-day accounting functions, month-end and year-end processes, and ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting. This role also contributes to improving reporting processes, managing and developing team members, and fostering a collaborative, supportive work environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support preparation of monthly financial statements, management reports, and journal entries
- Oversee, coach, and support the payroll team and payroll processes
- Provide accounting and reporting support for all Surerus businesses when required including partners
- Analyze costs, revenues, margin, project/division results, and the Company’s actual performance against budget
- Support in preparing annual budgets and forecasts
- Assist in developing and implementing financial policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Perform analytics on expenses and provide associated reporting
- Perform job and overhead billing support
- Preparation of equipment reports to assist in fleet management activities
- Cross-train and backfill other senior financial roles
- Support month-end and year-end close process, assist with annual financial and audit requirements
- Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality
- Mentor, develop, and manage direct reports or affiliates team members
Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Post-Secondary diploma and/or University degree in Accounting, or a related discipline.
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Possess or actively pursue CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) Designation
Experience
- 3+ years of experience as a Senior Accountant or similar position
Skills and Knowledge
- Thorough knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE)
- Payroll knowledge and leadership experience considered an asset
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain strictest confidentiality
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines
- Ability to take initiative when there is limited structure or direction
- Critical thinking, logical analysis and problem- solving skills
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (especially Excel)
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is based in our Fort St John Office. Extended work hours may be required to meet fixed reporting deadlines. The position may involve visits to project sites.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Senior Accountant reports to the Controller.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The expected salary range for this position is $85,000 - $115,000 annually. We will consider factors including previous experience, education, skills, and internal equity when determining placement within this range. In addition, we provide a discretionary annual bonus, comprehensive benefits package including extended health, dental, life and disability insurance, RRSP matching, and paid time off.
