The location in Crofton, British Columbia, Canada, is seeking talent to fill the position of Journeyman Trades (Temporary Assignment) - Millwrights & Pipefitters. This job is part-time temporary.

Position Summary

The Millwright is responsible for supporting maintenance operations at Domtar’s Crofton Mill, performing mechanical and piping system repairs to ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment. This role involves troubleshooting, efficiency improvement initiatives, and teamwork to maintain production reliability and workplace safety. The position requires Red Seal Certification, industrial experience, and strong technical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Report to the Maintenance Supervisor and perform various maintenance tasks.
  • Support maintenance operations and efficiency improvement initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and piping system issues.
  • Work in a team-oriented environment to ensure quality and safety.

Qualifications

  • Education/Certification

  • Current Red Seal Certification (mandatory).

  • Additional technical training in mechanical systems or piping considered an asset.

  • Experience

  • 3–5 years of maintenance experience in a pulp and paper mill or equivalent industrial environment.

  • Proven background in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and piping systems.

  • Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
    • Ability to read technical drawings and specifications.
    • Good verbal communication and teamwork skills.
    • Safety awareness and commitment to safe work practices.
    • Manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and the ability to work to exacting standards.
    • Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in noisy or odorous environments.
    • Knowledge of computer applications including MS Outlook

Working Conditions

  • Work performed in a pulp and paper mill environment at Domtar’s Crofton location, with exposure to heat, humidity, noise, and odours.
  • May be required to work in cramped spaces or at heights.
  • Work schedule may include shift work, overtime, and emergency call-outs.

Physical Demands

  • Standing: Frequent (up to 2 hours at a time).
  • Sitting: Occasional (up to 30 minutes at a time).
  • Kneeling, crouching, bending: Frequent (2–5 hours/day).
  • Crawling/squatting: Occasional (up to 2.5 hours/day).
  • Reaching: Occasional (horizontal and vertical).
  • Hand movements: Constant (use of tools and equipment).
  • Pushing/pulling: Frequent (carts, chain falls, wrenches, tool boxes).
  • Lifting: Frequent – average 10 lbs overhead, maximum 40 lbs.
  • Carrying: Frequent – 15–40 lbs, up to 50 feet.
  • Walking: Frequent (10 minutes at a time, varies by task).
  • Climbing: Frequent (stairs), occasional (ladders).
  • Twisting: Continuous.
