Commencing: September 1, 2026

SD85 is accepting applications from teachers holding BC Certification for an elementary counsellor position. SD85 is a diverse district with a focus on creating safe and inclusive learning environments to support all learners.

The Elementary School counselor provides individual, group, and classroom counselling programs and advises school staff on a variety of educational topics.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Counselling;
  • recent successful teaching experience at the elementary level, and recent successful experience as a school counsellor at the elementary level;
  • understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing and being, including First Peoples' Principles of Learning;
  • knowledge and experience working with students with exceptionalities;
  • training and experience in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Threat Assessment, Crisis Response and Suicide Risk Assessment;
  • successful experience liaising with parents, school-based teams, external agencies, and community-based professionals and coordinating SEL interventions using a multi- agency approach;
  • strong organizational, interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills; and
  • ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergent situations throughout the District and north island communities;

This position requires travel; therefore, a reliable vehicle, valid driver's license, and the ability to drive in north island conditions is necessary.

The starting annual salary for a full-time School Teacher/Counsellor position ranges from $66,299 to $116,016, with placement in the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement. The Remote Recruitment and Retention allowance is available for SD85 teachers payable at $3,126 over ten months.
