Position Summary

Bow Valley College is seeking a strategic and collaborative finance leader to join our team as Associate Director, Financial Planning and Analytics. Reporting to the Executive Director, Growth Initiatives & CFO, this role is responsible for leading financial analysis and evaluation of new strategic initiatives, grant applications, and program proposals, while overseeing the College’s budgeting and business planning processes. This position plays a critical role in supporting institutional decision-making by delivering insightful financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting aligned with the College’s strategic priorities.

The Associate Director provides leadership in financial planning, including the development and execution of annual budgets, forecasts, and scenario modelling. This role leads the advancement of financial processes and analytical frameworks, including program costing models and enhanced business planning approaches, ensuring accurate, relevant, and timely financial information is available to senior leadership. As a key member of the Finance management team and Operational Leaders Team, the Associate Director collaborates closely with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities, assess financial impacts, and guide strategic initiatives across the College.

This role is also responsible for ensuring compliance with external reporting requirements related to grants and contractual obligations, and acts as a primary contact for government inquiries related to funding proposals. Internally, the Associate Director ensures the integrity of financial data, leads the development of management reporting, and oversees monthly variance analysis to provide meaningful insights into financial performance and operational outcomes.

In addition to technical expertise, the Associate Director provides strong people leadership, overseeing Finance Business Partners and Finance Services Analysts. This includes setting direction, managing performance, supporting professional development, and fostering a high-performing, service-oriented team culture. The role requires a hands-on leader who can balance strategic thinking with operational execution, while maintaining a high standard of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement. The Associate Director also provides backup support to the Financial Controller and ensures compliance with College policies, government regulations, and privacy requirements.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, with a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, including at least 5 years in a leadership capacity. A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and a Master’s degree are considered assets. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, advanced proficiency in Excel, excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities, and a proactive, innovative mindset. Experience in the post-secondary sector and a strong understanding of public sector accounting standards (PSAS) are highly desirable.
