Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.

The Manager of Practice, Clinical Performance and Patient Safety is currently seeking a full-time Professional Practice Trainer to fill a NEW vacancy. The Professional Practice Trainer plays a key role in supporting professional standards and best practices within the organization. The incumbent is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering training initiatives specific to the Electronic Health Record system that enhance the skills and competencies of inter-professional teams in alignment with organizational policies, strategic objectives, and industry best practices.

Please Note: This position offers a hybrid work environment consisting of in-office and remote work. Office location is 500 Church St, Penetanguishene, ON.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Act as a subject matter expert on professional standards, policies, and best practices in clinical and nonclinical settings to support staff development.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate training programs in alignment with organizational priorities, including compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, including systems such as Meditech and MedPower.
  • Apply adult learning principles to create engaging and accessible educational materials for a variety of learning styles and delivery methods, including virtual and in-person formats.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends, professional best practices, and legislative requirements to ensure training content remains current and relevant.
  • Coordinate and schedule training initiatives, ensuring adequate training resources are available to support organizational needs.
  • Maintain accurate training records and generate reports to track compliance, competency development, and learning outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams, including Professional Practice, Organizational Development, and Human Resources, to align training with strategic goals and workforce development initiatives.
  • Participate in committees, working groups, and organizational projects as assigned.
  • Managers have the right to assign additional duties and schedule alternate work locations based on operational requirements.
  • Always performs all work in compliance with all hospital policies and procedures, legislation (Occupational Health & Safety Act, Fire Code, WHMIS, etc.) relevant to health and safety, security and potential risk hazards.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A diploma or baccalaureate degree in a health-related discipline is required
  • Healthcare professional in good standing with applicable regulatory college or applicable professional association (e.g. College of Nurses of Ontario, Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, Therapeutic Recreation Ontario).
  • 2-5 Years experience working in a therapeutic mental health care environment as a healthcare professional is required.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating education/training programs is required.
  • Preference will be given to those who have experience using electronic training systems such as MedPower.
  • Preference will be given to those holding a certificate, diploma or professional designation in teaching/training adults or adult education/learning.
  • Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results
  • Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to adapt readily to change and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude
  • Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values (Caring, Respect, Accountability, Innovation)
  • Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills.
