About the role

Summary

Reporting to the Reliability Engineer, the Condition Monitoring Technician supports the reliability and performance of rotating and static equipment through predictive maintenance and condition monitoring. This is responsible for the analysis and diagnostics of equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, gearboxes, and motors. The technician also provides backup support to fuel and lubrication technicians as needed, playing a key role in identifying early signs of equipment failure and supporting proactive maintenance strategies to ensure safe and efficient mill operations.

Responsibilities

Predictive Maintenance & Monitoring

  • Administer and execute condition monitoring programs for rotating equipment (e.g., compressors, blowers, pumps, gearboxes, VFDs, motors).
  • Monitor and analyze equipment condition using a variety of predictive technologies. including:
    • Vibration analysis
    • Lube oil analysis
    • Infrared thermography
    • Ultrasonic testing
  • Critical process data (pressures, temperatures, flows, loads, & efficiencies using PI)

Diagnostics & Troubleshooting

  • Perform field diagnostics and troubleshooting of rotating equipment, promoting and reinforcing maintenance best practices in the field.
  • Determine vibration point locations and develop data collection routes.
  • Install and maintain permanent and temporary vibration monitoring systems.

Training & Knowledge Sharing

  • Provide vibration data collection training to new employees.

  • Support knowledge transfer and mentoring within the maintenance team.

Reporting & Collaboration

  • Report equipment deficiencies in CMMS (Ellipse/SAP).
  • Consult with Maintenance Supervisors to develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability Engineers, and Planners to prioritize repairs.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) by providing relevant condition monitoring data.

Support Functions

  • Provide backup support to fuel and lubrication technicians, including lube routes and inspections.

Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all site safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Ensure all monitoring and support activities are conducted safely and effectively in a mining environment.

Other Related Duties as Assigned/Directed

  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned or directed by supervisors or management, which may include supporting other maintenance functions, participating in special projects, or adapting to changing operational needs to ensure the reliability and efficiency of mill operations.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • CAT I/CAT II/CAT III vibration analysis certification, preferred.

  • Proven knowledge in maintenance of centrifugal compressors, gas turbines, vertical and horizontal process pumps, and vibration monitoring, required.

  • Familiar with vibration monitoring software such as System 1, Ascent, Fluke 3563

  • Working knowledge of lube analysis, thermography, and basic NDT concepts, an asset.

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, such as percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions, required.

  • Basic proficiency with of MS Office.

  • Ability to assume responsibility, be flexible, perform duties and handle multiple tasks under potentially stressful and/or hazardous conditions.

  • Takes initiative and is proactive in addressing issues. Quickly and efficiently completes tasks.

  • Ability to demonstrate conscientiousness, dependability, and commitment to the role, team, and company.

Working Conditions

  • Work involves a camp-based role at the Mount Milligan Mine site with a set work schedule on a 14x14 work schedule, 12 hours per day.

  • Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts, up to 12 hours in duration.

  • Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Mount Milligan is a safety-sensitive environment and promotes a drug & alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a ZERO – TOLERANCE policy, with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs/paraphernalia on site.

  • Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from Prince George, Fort St. James and Mackenzie.
