Research Assistant – Alumni Interviews (9 week term)

Duties:
- Work with Program Coordinator to identify suitable SIFC-FNUniv alumni from 1976 to 2026 to participate in the 50th Anniversary Alumni Podcast Series
- Contact potential participants to confirm participation and booking suitable times for interviews
- Research participants prior to interview
- Tailor question list to individual guests
- Record interviews - including managing and ensuring audio quality
- Draft and record intros and outros for each episode
- Other related duties assigned by Program Coordinator
Qualifications: Graduate of the BA Indigenous Communication Arts program
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the history and mission of FNUniv and it's alumni community
- Knowledge of journalism interview practices and ethics
- Knowledge of basic audio recording and podcast production concepts learned in courses like INCA 351 Advanced Radio Production
- Experience with research methods and background preparation for interviews
- Demonstrated ability to develop open ended questions, active listening, listening respectfully and patiently, dealing with emotions, follow up on details
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to build rapport,
- Experience with scheduling
- Experience with operating audio recorders, basic editing with Audacity/Audition
- Experience conducting background research
- Ability to summarize interviews and writing intros/outros
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently
- Experience adapting interview questions during conversation
- Experience interviewing people for journalism assignments, podcast production, community engagement, writing article/profiles
