Senior Apparel Designer – Women’s Climb
About the role
Your opportunity at Arc’teryx:
As a Senior Designer, you design advanced, comprehensive product solutions that are aligned with Arc’teryx design philosophies. In this highly technical role, you focus on establishing the long-term vision and design strategy for our Women’s Climb product category, across all disciplines of climb - from Ice, o Alpine and Rock. You bring your curiosity and passion for product to imagine and build innovative, relevant, and resolved designs.
Key Products You’ll Be Designing For:
Gore-Tex shells, Insulated Mid-Layers, Spring/Summer Rock and Climb essentials (tops and bottoms)
This role is based primarily out of our North Vancouver office and is open to occasional hybrid work. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

If you were in the Senior Designer role now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:

- Collaborating with leadership and key stakeholders to establish and drive the vision and long-term design strategy for the Arc’teryx Climb product category
- Leading and mentoring a small group of high performing Designers to create comprehensive design solutions to exceed end user expectations
- Partnering directly with athletes on product evolutions, feedback insights and relationship building through using product use
- Inspiring, empowering, and supporting a group of high performing Designers and Design Developers to create comprehensive design solutions to exceed end user expectations
- Adhering to Arc’teryx Sustainability Design Principles while also contributing to future improvements
- Identifying and creating innovative performance or technology platforms that underpin product categories
- Driving the commercialization of innovative technologies, including materials, pattern/part shaping and construction techniques for existing and future product categories
- Creating patterns, mockups, and prototypes to explore, resolve, or prove new concepts or construction techniques
- Collaborating with the Fit & Pattern Team to resolve fit style and construction issues and ensure a fully commercialized product
- Collaborating with the Materials team to brief, develop and test/validate new material concepts to bring to market
- Collaborating closely with other Designers to create a wholistic product range as well as create consisting in construction and aesthetics across product categories
- Collaborating with the Merchandising team and Design Directors on seasonal line plans and project resource planning
- Assisting with current product design changes where necessary to address in-line production issues
- Presenting at internal meetings, design reviews and seasonal stage gates, annual seasonal handoffs and other product meetings as required
- Attending trade shows, company events as well as sourcing and development vendor visits as required
- Partnering with Product Development to gain visibility into cost estimates, MOQs and LOM concerns throughout concepting and prototyping for seasonal products
- Staying up to date with industry trends, collaborating with Arc’teryx athletes and other industry representatives to help ensure Arc’teryx is exceeding our guests’ evolving needs

- Collaborating with various design leaders to identify new product opportunities and propose product solutions
- Working closely with our development teams and innovation partnerships to challenge and evolve the way we bring innovative ideas to production
Are you our next Senior Designer

- You have a Degree in Design (Apparel, Industrial, etc.) or equivalent experience, and a minimum of 8+ years’ hands-on experience designing apparel, with 2+ years’ experience leading a team
- You are an outdoor climber; able to get out and live it with our athletes and designers, on all disciplines of climb pursuits
- You have advanced knowledge in design, patterning, sewing, and garment construction with advanced technical and creative skills to pattern and prototype new products
- You are technically proficient with using the Adobe Suite, and/or digital pattern software, CLO3D (or the equivalent software)
- You are an excellent team player with the ability to take direction, work with minimal supervision and mentor and develop team members
- You have hands-on experience creating tools and construction methods to assist in solving construction issues
- You are an innovative problem solver with a focus on collaborative teamwork
- You have excellent planning, organizational, problem solving and decision-making skills
- You are attentive to all the minute details, highly organized, and conscientious of timelines and deliverables
- You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues, seeking the best (sometimes not the easiest) solutions with an unwavering commitment to do what is right
- You remain highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity

A reasonable estimate of the pay range is CAD$106,000 - CAD$133,000 at the time of this posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training. The upper end of the range is typically reserved for candidates with demonstrated expertise that is above job requirements or who bring exceptional directly transferable experience.
