The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Senior IT Systems Administrator to join our team, reporting to the Manager of IT & Cybersecurity.
This role supports a lean IT environment and provides end-to-end ownership of critical IT infrastructure, systems, and services. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining secure, reliable, and scalable IT operations while serving as a senior technical resource and escalation point within the IT team.
This position requires a hands-on professional who can independently manage infrastructure, security, cloud services, endpoint management, and operational processes while leading technical initiatives that improve system reliability, performance, and security.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure & Systems Administration
- Own and administer core IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, virtualization platforms, endpoints, and business-critical applications.
- Administer and maintain Microsoft 365, Entra ID (Azure AD), Active Directory, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and related cloud services.
- Administer and maintain Windows and Linux server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, file services, access controls, patch management, performance monitoring, and system hardening.
- Administer virtualization platforms (VMware and/or Hyper-V) to ensure performance, availability, and scalability.
- Lead backup and recovery operations, including testing, monitoring, and validation of business continuity and disaster recovery processes.
- Monitor infrastructure health, system performance, and security posture, proactively addressing risks and operational issues.
- Manage server lifecycle activities including deployment, upgrades, patching, monitoring, troubleshooting, capacity planning, and decommissioning.
Endpoint Management & User Services
- Lead endpoint management through Microsoft Intune, including provisioning, compliance policies, device lifecycle management, patching, and security controls.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and Tier 2/3 support for complex technical issues.
- Oversee onboarding, offboarding, access management, and user lifecycle processes.
- Act as an escalation point for critical incidents and operational issues.
Networking & Security
- Manage and maintain network infrastructure, including switches, wireless networks, VPNs, and connectivity services.
- Administer and maintain security infrastructure, including Fortinet firewalls, VPN solutions, and access control systems.
- Lead implementation of security controls, system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Support compliance initiatives and cybersecurity programs aligned with organizational security objectives.
IT Operations & Projects
- Own and manage IT service delivery processes, including incident management, problem management, request fulfillment, change management, asset management, and procurement activities.
- Lead infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and modernization initiatives from planning through implementation.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, system standards, procedures, network diagrams, and operational runbooks.
- Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, operational efficiency, automation, and user experience.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to deliver IT solutions that support business objectives.
- Ensure compliance with IT policies, standards, and governance requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5–8+ years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure, cloud services, or IT operations roles.
- Strong experience administering Microsoft 365, Entra ID (Azure AD), Active Directory, and Windows and Linux server environments.
- Experience supporting infrastructure services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file services, certificate services, and virtualization platforms.
- Experience supporting and troubleshooting Linux operating systems (Ubuntu, CentOS, Red Hat, or equivalent) in a production environment.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Intune and enterprise endpoint management.
- Experience supporting virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Experience managing backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
- Strong networking knowledge, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, routing, switching, and firewall concepts.
- Experience managing firewall platforms, preferably Fortinet FortiGate.
- Experience with IT Service Management (ITSM) platforms and service delivery processes.
- Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting cybersecurity and compliance frameworks such as NIST, CMMC, ISO 27001, or similar standards.
- Experience with scripting and automation using PowerShell, Python, APIs, or automation platforms to improve system administration, operational efficiency, and IT service delivery.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
- Experience supporting ERP systems (Epicor Kinetic).
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft, CompTIA, ITIL, CCNA, Fortinet, Azure, or cybersecurity certifications.
- Experience supporting regulated manufacturing or engineering environments.
This is an onsite job with a requirement of four days in office. The salary range for this role is $80,000 to $100,000.
