About the role
At SMS Equipment, our Product Manager is responsible for a full spectrum of product management activities for assigned product lines within SMS Equipment’s heavy equipment portfolio. A successful product manager will lead with influence creating strong cohesion amongst cross-functional teams involved in the sale of assigned product lines.
Work Location: Acheson, AB
Salary: $110,000 to $120,000 annually, plus incentive.
Work arrangement: Fixed on site – working 5 days per week from the office.
Travel: This position may be required to travel up to 50% of the time.
Schedule: Monday to Friday.
What You'll Do
- Product line ownership with responsibility to drive profitable market share growth.
- Perform assessments to define and size market segments, identify specific areas of development, and seek new market opportunities.
- Act as subject matter expert for all things related to assigned product line.
- Product pricing ownership and ongoing evaluation of product line profitability.
- Participate in equipment forecasting and inventory planning to achieve asset turn targets managed within the overall inventory budget.
- Collaborate with Regional Sales Managers on establishing product line sales objectives and targeted business plans.
- Assist in customer sales presentations, quotations, and recommendations for change as required.
- Facilitate product training sessions for Sales Representatives and elevate sales personnel product line knowledge.
- Manage relationship with OEMs and key suppliers.
- Ongoing competitive landscape analysis and assessment, including competitive activities, product pricing, features, acceptance, after sales support, and alternate solutions
- Maintain network of professional contacts and industry-specific associations
- Requirement to travel up to 50% of the time to build and maintain internal and external relationships within the branches and with our customers.
What You Bring
The successful candidate will have a degree in business, marketing or a related field and a minimum of 5 years experience within the Equipment distribution industry / industrial sector with a strong marketing and sales orientation. Additional qualifications include:
- Industry sales experience or technical experience with the products.
- A strong business acumen and technical aptitude.
- Excellent organization skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
- Clear and effective communicate skills with all levels of an organization.
This position is classified as an Individual Contributor role in SMS Equipment’s competency framework, requiring demonstration of core competencies (customer focus, collaboration, and technical/functional expertise).
