Position overview
As a Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician - Apprentice, you will work as part of a dynamic multi-trade team, gaining hands-on experience and technical skills in repairing and maintaining heavy-duty equipment. With opportunities to collaborate with skilled professionals, you will contribute to the efficient operation of various machinery and vehicles, while honing your expertise in diagnosing issues, conducting repairs, and ensuring the safety and reliability of the equipment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Diagnose, repair, adjust, overhaul, maintain, operate and test heavy duty equipment in use by the Vancouver Airport Authority which includes, but is not limited to: emergency response vehicles, fire trucks, heavy trucks, runway/apron sweepers, tractors, graders, loaders, excavators and backhoes, snow-plows and forklifts, and miscellaneous ancillary equipment and accessories
Key qualifications include:
- Mechanical experience in a related field
- Enrolled in or eligible to enrol in an apprenticeship program
- Ability to work in a team environment that includes a rotating dayshift, as well as independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to make safety a top priority
- Valid BC driver’s license (Class 1 or 3 preferred)
The shift schedule is 4/4 primarily dayshift, with a requirement through winter operations for 24/7 operations. As an employee on a shifted work schedule, you may be eligible for shift and weekend premiums.
The successful candidate shall receive a percentage of the journeyperson’s rate of pay as established by the Apprenticeship Act.
This position is open to both Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external applicants. Previous job performance will be taken into consideration for all internal candidates that apply for this position.
As part of our recruitment process, short-listed candidates may be required to participate in an assessment process.
Salary Range : $78,654 to $102,802 per annum, based on 40-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
