Your Impact:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Platform Modernization, the Principal Site Reliability Administrator provides strategic leadership and technical expertise in the design, implementation, and optimization of virtualization solutions within the Platform Modernization organization. This role focuses on modernizing legacy virtualization platforms (e.g., outdated VMware ESXi, Hyper-V on EOSL servers), to ensure scalable, resilient, and efficient architectures for on-premises and hybrid environments. The Principal Specialist collaborates with Solution Architects, Senior SMEs, and application owners to align virtualization modernization with business objectives, reduce technical debt, and enhance system reliability. This role drives the implementation of the virtualization modernization roadmap, fosters continuous improvement, and mitigates risks to protect business operations.
As a Principal Site Reliability Administrator, you will:
- Lead virtualization strategy to modernize legacy platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere 6.x, Hyper-V on Windows Server 2008) into hyper-converged or software-defined infrastructures.
- Drive roadmap execution aligned with Platform Modernization lifecycle heatmaps across compute, database, storage, and network domains.
- Assess legacy systems for obsolescence, performance, and compliance gaps; contribute to high-level and low-level modernization designs.
- Design and implement virtualization solutions using technologies like hyper-converged infrastructure, Kubernetes, and virtual desktop infrastructure.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Solution Architects, Senior SMEs, and security/architecture teams to ensure seamless integration.
- Manage risk and compliance for EOSL platforms, ensuring alignment with security and regulatory standards.
- Research and recommend emerging technologies (e.g., edge computing virtualization, AI-optimized hypervisors) to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Mentor and guide Senior SREs and SMEs in best practices for virtualization, automation, and governance.
What you need to succeed:
- 8+ years in virtualization roles, with 4+ years leading modernization of legacy systems in enterprise environments.
- Led complex migrations from EOSL platforms to modern virtualization solutions across hybrid and cloud-native infrastructures.
- Expert in legacy and modern platforms, including VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix, Proxmox, and cloud-integrated hypervisors.
- Designed scalable architectures with high-availability, disaster recovery, and container-based solutions (e.g., Kubernetes).
- Strong grasp of hybrid infrastructure, SDN, SDS, and modernization patterns like microservices and containerization.
- Skilled in automation and compliance, using tools like Ansible and Terraform within regulated virtualized environments.
- Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities in cross-functional technical teams and modernization initiatives.
- Certifications such as VCP, Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty, or Red Hat Certified Virtualization Administrator are considered assets.
