Job Description Description The Southern Health Sante Sud Region is seeking a motivated Clinical Assistant(s) for a 0.9 temporary position in the My Health Team program at the Menzies Medical Centre location.
The Physician or Clinical Assistant (PA/CI.A) is an academically prepared healthcare professional educated in the medical model who practices medicine under the supervision of licensed physicians within a patient-centered healthcare team. The PA/CI.A is a physician extender and not an independent practitioner. Under the supervision of a Physician from the Menzies Medical Centre, the PA/CI.A will take medical histories, perform physical exams, order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests, perform selected diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, prescribe medications, and provide patient education and counselling in the community clinic located in the Menzies Medical Centre. Monitoring and management of pediatric in patients at BTHC that are admitted to the supervising physician. The PA/CI.A will be an integral member of the multidisciplinary team providing safe and quality health care services in the community of Morden.
Responsibilities Duties and functions include but are not limited to the following:
- The PA will take medical histories, perform physician exams, order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests, perform selected diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, prescribe medications and provide patient education and counselling in the community clinic located at the Menzies Medical Clinic.
- Monitoring and management of pediatric patients at Boundary Trails Health Centre (BTHC) that are admitted to the supervising physician. The PA will be an integral member of the multidisciplinary team providing safe and quality health care services in the community of Morden.
Clinical Assistants will be required to attend clinical and educational rounds. Administrative requirements will include standard of practice recordings of all patient encounters, these methods may require dictating or utilizing electronic medical records where/when available. Assistants must be able to communicate effectively in English with other members of interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
THIS IS NOT A MEDICAL ASSISTANT OR MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT POSITION
Qualifications
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Medical School in Canada or abroad or of a Physician Assistant Educational Program acceptable to the College and eligible for national certification
- Must be a member of the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA)
- Ongoing Physician Assistant certification required
- Must be registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba
- Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job
- Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums
- Good work and attendance record
- 1 year minimum experience in pediatric care
This position is subject to a Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, and an Adult Abuse Registry Check. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred .
