The Social Worker counsels and provides guidance to individuals and/or families with various social, medical and/or psychiatric challenges, under the guidance of the Director of Care.
***Please note this position requires a work schedule of 30 hours per week***
Responsibilities
- Interviews residents to determine nature and degree of problem, disability or illness and interprets data
- Assists family members in understanding the residents’ needs and aids the resident and family in working out realistic functional goals for the resident
- Helps resident and family members through individual or group conferences to understand, accept, and follow medical recommendations
- Supports residents and families with problems concerning relationships or other aspects of social functioning affected by disability
- Collaborating with the multidisciplinary teams in diagnosis and treatment plans
- Conducts psychosocial screening activities determining required specialized psychiatric assistance
- Serves on committees as required
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and registered under the BC College of Social Workers.
- Minimum 2 years experience working in a social services field or related capacity; or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, and professional standards in the field of social work
- Understanding of community organizations and social service programs available
- Strong counselling and conflict resolution skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with peers, residents, visitors, and operational partners
- Solid organizational skills, demonstrate the ability to prioritize and problem solve
