About The Position The Junior Operator assists the Operators in the operation of the Environmental Services Facilities (including but not limited to wastewater and storm water pumping/lift stations, Water Pollution Control Centre, Devine Street CSO Facility, Bright’s Grove Lagoon Facilities, Compost Facility and Waste Management). This includes preparing plant effluent samples for lab analysis, process monitoring, adjusting and maintaining process equipment under the direction of a licensed operator, greasing pumps and valves, assisting the maintenance and compliance staff as required, general maintenance and cleaning of equipment and tanks, and general facility maintenance including cleaning windows, floors, kitchen and restrooms, painting, cutting grass, and other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an Environmental Technician/Technology program
- Valid class G2 driver's license with an abstract acceptable to City guidelines
Required Within The First Month
- Ability to obtain an Operator In Training (OIT) Wastewater Treatment Certificate through the Ontario Water Wastewater Certification Office (OWWCO)
- Ability to obtain a Safety Watch (Spark Watch) Certificate
Demonstrated Skills and Abilities
- Highly motivated with a strong ability to work independently when required
- Strong ability for compliance with instructions and guidelines
- Ability to communicate effectively with others
- Competent within the meaning and use of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Additional Information Pay in lieu of vacation in accordance with the Employment Standards Act, 2000, access to the Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP), and the option to enroll in the OMERS pension plan.
