John Zink is hiring a Field Service Technician in the Vapor group supporting the refining and petrochemical industries!
This is a remote position within Canada.

We offer competitive compensation ranging from $55 to $65 CAD per hour (higher for experienced candidates), along with excellent health and retirement benefits. Our Team
John Zink, a Koch Engineered Solutions (KES) company, delivers innovative, engineered-to-order solutions. Our vapor equipment group provides specialized products for refining and petrochemical applications. Our Field Service Technicians work directly at customer sites across Canada, performing commissioning, maintenance, and other technical service work.
What You Will Do
- Travel to customer sites from your home office to perform preventative maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of a wide variety of electrical and mechanical equipment. Equipment includes, but is not limited to, pumps, motors, variable frequency drives (VFD), positioners, valves, actuators, transmitters, combustion equipment, emissions monitoring equipment, digital recorders, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
- Commission, troubleshoot, and modify different types of PLCs (primarily Allen Bradley, Emerson, and Wonderware) including PID loop controllers, VFDs, Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI), and other control devices.
- Modify technical documents and drawings (redlines) to reflect field changes and corrections for equipment commissioning.
- Travel extensively within Canada and potentially the US, with a minimum of 75% travel expected.
- Be on call for customer service as needed.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Experience modifying, diagnosing, and troubleshooting PLCs such as Allen Bradley and GE brands.
- Experience programming, calibrating, and configuring 4-20 mA loop devices.
- Understanding and application of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) or National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Ability to read and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), fabrication drawings, and electrical schematics.
- Valid Canadian Driver's License and ability to operate a company vehicle as needed.
- Able to travel over 75% of the time.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and 25 lbs routinely.
- Able to bend, stoop, crawl, climb, and maneuver around skidded equipment and piping.
- Ability to hear distinct sounds, perceive colors accurately, and see at varying distances.
- Work in outdoor environments with occasional long days.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Hands-on experience with Allen Bradley ControlLogix, RS Linx, GE Rx3i, Modicon, Siemens, or other PLCs
- 2-year technical degree in a mechanically-based field or 4 years of relevant military service
- Field experience in petrochemical, power generation, renewable energy, pulp & paper, or food processing industries
- Electrical journeyman license or equivalent credentials
- Strong knowledge of industrial safety standards (OSHA, NFPA 70E, CCOHS, CSA B149.3)
- Experience with industrial electrical/electronic equipment: motors, VFDs, positioners, valves, actuators, transmitters, and PLCs

General Salary Range
For this role, we anticipate an hourly rate ranging from $55 to $65 CAD an hour as we are open to candidates from a wide range of career levels. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
