The Commercial Deal Leader plays a critical role in driving the end-to-end execution of complex, high-value commercial deals. This role combines commercial deal leadership with pre-sales solution expertise, bridging the gap between customer needs, technical feasibility, and commercial viability, while providing discipline and structured governance across construction, technology, financial and contract elements for complex pursuits.
Acting as a strategic quarterback, the Deal Leader partners with Account Executives, Sales Leadership, Legal, Finance, Engineering, and Operations to structure, negotiate, and close deals that align with company strategy and deliver measurable business outcomes.
Main Tasks:
Deal Strategy & Structuring
- Lead the development of deal strategies for complex or high-value opportunities, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and pricing guidelines.
- Partner with Account Executives early in the sales cycle to shape proposals, assess risks, and ensure solutions meet customer and business needs.
- Support opportunity qualification and prioritize deals based on strategic impact and revenue potential.
- Strong investigative and diagnostic skills; able to analyze both technical and commercial issues in depth
- Intellectual curiosity with a track record of rapidly learning new technologies, business models, and market dynamics
- Advanced analytical capabilities, including data analysis, scenario modeling, and risk assessment
- Ability to anticipate challenges, surface hidden risks, and develop mitigation strategies proactively
- Financial & Commercial Analysis:
- Build and review business cases, pricing models, and ROI analyses for proposed deals.
- Ensure deal terms maximize profitability while remaining competitive in the market.
- Present financial and strategic rationale for deal approvals to senior leadership.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Serve as the central point of coordination between Sales, Engineering, Finance, Legal, and Operations throughout the deal lifecycle.
- Manage timelines, dependencies, and deliverables to ensure deals move efficiently through internal processes.
- Facilitate approvals and resolve issues to remove barriers to closing.
Negotiation & Closing
- Support Account Executives in customer negotiations, particularly on pricing, contract terms, and service commitments.
- Ensure final agreements reflect negotiated terms and company policies.
- Oversee the transition from signed deal to implementation, ensuring a smooth handoff to delivery teams.
Solution Design & Technical Expertise
Partner with Account Executives and engineering teams to translate customer needs into technically sound, commercially viable telecom solutions (e.g., fiber, wireless, IP/MPLS, enterprise connectivity). Provide technical guidance, validate feasibility, and ensure solutions align with network capabilities and strategic goals.
Proposal Development & Technical Documentation
Contribute technical content for proposals, RFP/RFQ responses, and presentations. Create or review network diagrams, Bills of Materials, and solution specifications, translating complex technical details into clear, customer-friendly materials.
Customer Engagement & Technical Advisory
Participate in discovery sessions, site visits, and technical presentations. Serve as the trusted technical advisor throughout the sales cycle, addressing questions and building confidence in the proposed solution.
Costing & Feasibility Analysis
Conduct high-level design and cost modeling to assess network build requirements, infrastructure constraints, and ROI. Collaborate with finance and engineering to ensure accurate, competitive pricing and financial alignment.
Continuous Improvement & Knowledge Sharing
Standardize technical solution templates and documentation, stay current on emerging telecom technologies, and provide feedback to product and engineering teams on customer trends and competitive insights.
Skills/Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Commerce, Engineering, or a related field (MBA or equivalent experience is an asset).
- 5+ years of experience in deal management, commercial operations, enterprise sales support, or related roles — preferably in telecommunications, IT, or infrastructure industries.
- Proven ability to lead complex deals involving multiple stakeholders and functions.
- Strong financial modeling and business case development skills.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Familiarity with telecom technologies (e.g., fiber networks, wireless, managed services) is an asset.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to work on internal systems for extended periods of time.
