Position Description

Qualifications

  • Current CNO registration in the Province of Ontario
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) is a requirement
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years recent experience in critical care nursing (i.e. PACU, intensive care, etc)
  • Must have PACU program or recent work experience with solid understanding of patient flow within the perioperative patient journey
  • Must have solid understanding of OPANA and NAPAN standards, along with PACU/DSU triage principles, admission and discharge criteria
  • Must have PACU nursing practice knowledge, skill, and ability to be able to support both PACU and DSU nursing practice and education within the perioperative program
  • Must have knowledge and experience with regards to adult learning principles and their application in this leadership role
  • Must have knowledge of ONA and CUPE collective agreement with regards to unit scheduling, operational coverage, LOAs, vacation etc
  • Must have solid understanding and proven ability to work with schedules and unit daily assignments to support fluctuations in OR volumes and flow within the perioperative program
  • Must have demonstrated ability to lead nursing practice within a changing environment grounded through evidence-based practice and best standards of care
  • Must have proven leadership skills and demonstrated experience working within an interdisciplinary team environment with regards to people management and change management
  • Must have documented experience showing ability to work under stress and function effectively in critical situations
  • Current BCLS and ACLS is a requirement
  • EKG/cardiac rhythm interpretation is a requirement
  • Critical Care Course or PeriAnesthesia Course an asset
  • Must be able to complete orientation as required
  • Must have willingness and ability to work charge shifts as required in order to meet the needs of the unit for pre-booked and relief tours
  • Must have a good attendance and work record demonstrating reliability and dependability
