Child Care Supervisor - Full Time

Salary Range: $43,272.00- $54,090.00per year + associated provincial hourly wage top up

What qualifications are we looking for?

At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following;

  • Previous experience working within a licensed child care centre; supervisory experience is an asset

  • Alberta Early Childhood Educator Certification – Level 3

  • Understanding of, and ability to meet, the Alberta Early Learning and Child Care Act and Regulations

  • Experience working with children aged 12 months – six years, utilizing an inclusive and play-based learning curriculum

  • Ability to motivate and coach others to achieve collective excellence in child care service delivery

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including intermediate computer literacy

  • Demonstrated ability to complete general office and child care administrative tasks

  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.

  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search

  • Three professional references required.

What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

The successful applicant will work 40 hours per week between the hours of 7am - 6pm, Monday through Friday. Flexibility of the successful applicant’s personal schedule is required to ensure area needs are met. Some evening and weekend work may be required to meet training requirements.

Reporting to the Child Care Director, the Childcare Supervisor will:

  • Be a member of the onsite senior team within the Shawnessy YMCA Child Development Centre supporting operation and administrative responsibilities of the 48-space centre.

  • Demonstrate a cooperative team approach for managing centre operations including adapting personal work schedule, working in ratio and providing facility operational support (including Duty Manager shifts)

  • This includes acting as “Designate in Charge” during periods of the Child Care Director may be absent or otherwise engaged.

  • Ensure all staff needs are met; including support with recruitment, supervision, scheduling, coaching & development, performance management, training and recognition.

  • Perform office and administration tasks required of the child care centre.

  • Achieve excellence in developmentally appropriate program delivery through staff and program development for effective implementation of the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum.

  • This includes working in ratio to meet operational needs, supporting personal care needs of children, engaging in active play indoors, outside, during recreational swim time and while on outings and fieldtrips.

  • Demonstrate a professional, customer service-oriented approach including the effective utilization of established communication strategies for both internal and external YMCA Calgary stakeholders.

  • Ensure the childcare centre operates in accordance with applicable Provincial licensing regulations, Alberta Health Service standards, Calgary Fire regulations and YMCA Calgary policies and procedures.

  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe indoor and outdoor environment.

  • Demonstrate safe practices and act promptly on all health and safety risks and concerns. Effectively manage emergency situations as per YMCA procedures.

  • Support centre, branch and association activities as assigned, including planning and facilitation
