SUMMARY
A Purchaser will purchase hardware, wood doors, overhead doors, hollow metal doors and frames, and other materials for stock and/or projects, in accordance with the company best practices, policies and procedures.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Purchaser:
Duties but not limited to…
- Maintain up to date price lists from suppliers
- Purchase product related to stock and for projects and outsource inbound freight, being mindful of company buying guidelines and inbound freight costs in an effort to achieve lowest cost
- Proficient in knowledge and use of computer programs to create purchase orders
- Ensure vendor quote numbers appear on purchase orders as required
- Verify order acknowledgments to purchase orders
- Follow up on discrepancies between purchase orders and vendor invoices
- Stage product by itemizing packages in preparation for site delivery and recording the staging location in computer system
- Possesses an extensive knowledge of products, including but not limited to hollow metal, hardware, wood doors and other products in order to suggest alternate products from inventory for projects
Inventory Control:
Duties but not limited to…
- Consult with suppliers and review quotations in consultation with branch manager, always striving to reduce product acquisition and carrying costs
- Assess requirements of Allmar and develop specifications for products, materials and supplies to be purchased
- Establish and maintain minimums and maximums for stock levels to meet Sales usage
- Use control procedures to limit breakage, spoilage, and theft
- Achieve maximum inventory turns with minimum goal not less than 5
- Maintain stock locations to maximize order filling efficiency
- Establish and maintain inventory control procedures to verify that each stock item’s INV#, location, quantity, and shelf number is accurate and recorded in the inventory software system
- Coordinate inventory cycle counts
- Assist with the periodic inventory counts by inputting and compiling inventory counts
- Establish delivery schedules, monitor progress and contact suppliers to resolve problems
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Hardware product knowledge and experience required
- Strong negotiation skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Flexible and self-motivated
- Ability to work independently as well in team environment
- Excellent organizational skills
- Sound understanding of the hardware, door and building construction industry
- Strong mathematical aptitude
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Extensive company training provided
- Purchasing certificate or 3-5 years’ related experience
- Proficient computer skills in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
