The Storeperson II works as part of the Warehouse team and supports the effective and efficient delivery of warehouse services for the Division. The incumbent is responsible for orderly and proper receipt of inventories of supplies, materials, and equipment.
The job receives and inspects incoming inventories and supplies against packing slips or invoices to ensure accuracy and completeness. The job handles inventory control activities including stock keeping, distributing, and packaging materials ordered by schools and departments.
The work is guided by department standards, practices, policies, and procedures. Work is completed in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations and guidelines and the Division’s goals and objectives.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Order processing and inventory control
- Unload shipments, inspect for damage, verify weigh bills and weigh shipments
- Receive, confirm order with documentation
- Inspect a large number of in-coming materials, supplies and equipment
- Record information from packing slips or invoices
- Maintain inventory control data electronically
- Write up delivery slips for non-inventory items to be delivered to schools and departments
- Report short shipments, damages or shipping errors to vendors, suppliers, and Financial Services department
- Assist with inventory counts
Worksite maintenance
- Perform general maintenance
- Ensure worksite is maintained in a clean and safe manner
- Sweep, wash and clean floors and other surfaces
- Replace lamps and light bulbs
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor/manager
Pickup and delivery activities
- Assist with pickup and delivery of pre-arranged materials, equipment, furniture, custodial supplies, books and mail within Edmonton and surrounding areas
- Complete single or multiple pickup and drop off activities outside of daily schedule
- Identify and resolve problems with damaged or missing goods and items
Safe vehicle operation
- Ensure safe operation of Division vehicles and trucks
- Maneuver vehicles into tight spaces
- Ensure adherence to Alberta Traffic Laws and Division policies regarding operation of vehicles
- Ensure vehicle is maintained in a clean and road-worthy condition by performing daily cleaning and checks prior to, and after use
- Report traffic tickets, accidents, defects or mechanical problems to supervisor
- Maintain records of mileage pertaining to regular maintenance schedules
Department activities
- Assist co-workers with peak workloads and during absences
- Participate in unit meetings
- Participate in special events and celebrations
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma
- Knowledge of inventory management principles, practices and systems
- Knowledge of workplace safety, OHS, WHMIS and TGD regulation and legislation
- Knowledge of traffic laws and safe driving techniques
- General knowledge of department and unit policies, procedures, business and operations
- Working knowledge of Microsoft programs – Word, Excel, Outlook, and the Internet
- Experience with warehouse management systems would be considered an asset
- Standard First Aid/CPR is an asset
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to schedule and plan work priorities to meet deadlines and manage conflicting priorities
- Strong teamwork skills as well as the ability to work independently
- Physically able to complete the job duties using appropriate tools and techniques
- Ability to lift up to 30Kg/66lbs
- Ability to operate material handling equipment – reach fork lift, pallet jack (powered and non-powered), etc.
- Fluency in the English language including both oral and written communication skills is mandatory
- Attention to detail and ability to work with numbers
- Valid Alberta driver’s license and the ability to travel within the City of Edmonton and surrounding areas to assist with deliveries
