About Us
Accessible Education plays a central role in Western's efforts to ensure that its academic programs are accessible for all students at the graduate and undergraduate levels. We arrange academic accommodation for classes, exams, internships and other course or program activities, as well as provide digital and Braille textbooks, accessible campus transportation, learning strategy instruction for students with learning disabilities, access to computer labs that are equipped with assistive technology, referrals for assessments and other services, and bursaries for students who meet OSAP's eligibility criteria.
Responsibilities
As an Educational Assistant, you will work closely with students to provide individualized support, assist with academic tasks, and facilitate their overall success. This role offers a fulfilling opportunity to make a positive impact on students' educational journey and contribute to their personal and academic growth.
Responsibilities:
The Note Taking program is a confidential service that is provided for hearing impaired students through Academic Support & Engagement, Accessible Education. This position entails attending the assigned student(s) classes, labs, tutorials, etc. to take comprehensive, concise, well organized, legible notes on a laptop (handwritten for some Science and Math courses) and provide them to the student within 24 hours.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree preferred
Experience:
- Previous experience working in an educational setting, preferably with university-level students.
- Experience in taking computerized and handwritten classroom notes within a Univiersity environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
- Availability and flexibility to complte note taking on Mondays
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Empathy and understanding towards students facing academic challenges.
- Adaptability and flexibility to meet the evolving needs of students and the university environment.
- Commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in higher education.
