Ocean Capital has a new opportunity for aControllerat our Saint John office who will provide wide-ranging financial leadership, services, and support for Ocean Capital Holdings Limited (OCHL) and related companies. As a key member of the Finance team, this role actively contributes to strategic financial planning and leverages various tools and reporting methods to communicate financial performance and insights, offering recommendations that enhance both operational and financial outcomes. This role also plays an integral part in enhancing accounting systems and optimizing processes within the finance department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning, preparation and execution of monthly consolidated and non-consolidated financial statements and schedules, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis for multiple companies and present to Senior Leadership.
  • Coordinate with operational finance teams to prepare consolidated financial reports and analysis.
  • Prepare annual budgets and schedules including management reporting.
  • Assist in creation of annual management and shareholder reporting.
  • Manage day-to-day transactional processing: billing, cash forecasting.
  • Serve as a key resource to support internal and external audit processes.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of formalized accounting and reporting policies and standards.
  • Identify and support process improvement initiatives within the accounting team and across cross‑functional groups.
  • Maintain data integrity and ensure standardized financial information.
  • Review and approve work completed by the Accounting Associate, including accounts payable/receivable processing, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.

Required education, experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation.
  • 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience post CPA completion.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Supervisory or mentoring experience is considered an asset; ability to develop junior team members.
  • Strong presentation skills, capable of delivering complex financial information in an engaging and accessible manner.
  • Ability to Communicate financial results and process expectations clearly to both financial and non-financial team members.
  • Proven experience collaborating with and presenting to senior leadership.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Reliable self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage priorities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality and professional integrity.
