Custodian (Casual, Part-time)

GENERAL OVERVIEW
Cornerstone Christian Community Church is a non-profit, Christian organization. The Church operates a community centre-style facility that is open 7 days per week and serves the community through Sunday worship services, programs and events throughout the week. As Custodian your objective is to do general cleaning and maintenance work utilizing general trade skills, and set up and tear down for events/meetings as required. The Custodian’s objective is to provide a clean, safe, and welcoming environment through general cleaning, maintenance, and event support. This role also plays a part in hospitality by assisting renters and ensuring the facility reflects the care and excellence of Cornerstone Church.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs routine cleaning throughout the facility. This includes, but is not limited to, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning windows, emptying and carrying out trash and outside work at all times of the year.
- Set up and tear down rooms for programs, services, and rentals (furniture, equipment, staging)
- Conduct routine inspection of the building and grounds to identify deficiencies or safety hazards
- Performs minor maintenance based on ability and availability of resources when required.
- Lock up and secure the building at closing, ensuring safety of occupants and property. Welcome and demonstrate good customer service skills when hosting renters (be friendly, advise where restrooms are, how to contact you while they are in the building)
- Follow all health, safety, and fire code standards.
- Provide feedback following rental permits to assist in continuous improvement.
- In the absence of direct supervision, be able to prioritize responsibilities and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Other duties as may be assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a heart for people, and a love for the church.
- Demonstrate commitment to the church’s vision, mission, and values.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks (bending, standing, climbing ladders); working with cleaning chemicals, being on one’s feet for long periods of time, and being able to bend, stoop, lift, and carry various objects throughout a normal shift..
- Quick learner with the ability to adapt to new tasks and responsibilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and effective time management skills.
- Some previous level of familiarity with basic custodial responsibilities is preferred, but not required.
- Some basic maintenance/’handyman' experience is an asset.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays
- WHMIS and/or workplace safety training (or willingness to obtain)?

- Will require completion of Vulnerability Sector Screening upon hiring
- Will require completion of WMIS and/or workplace safety upon hiring
- Reports to the Facilities Manager
