The Position

Gateway Mechanical Services is seeking a results-driven and highly organized Business Development ManagerProjects to lead the execution and growth of commercial refrigeration and mechanical projects. This position bridges technical engineering, business development, and operational execution. The ideal candidate will drive project success through operational excellence, customer engagement, and cross-functional collaboration while promoting a strong culture of safety, sustainability, and team development.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Excellence:

  • Serve as the primary interface with clients for all technical, schedule, and commercial matters.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (designers, engineers, and project managers) to ensure scope compliance and deliverables.
  • Manage project execution to meet approved budgets and schedules while ensuring adherence to quality standards.
  • Engineer tailored solutions that meet client requirements and ensure profitability for Gateway.
  • Visit worksites to conduct needs assessments, gather technical data, and support project scoping.
  • Prepare accurate customer estimates and compelling proposals by analyzing drawings, plans, and supporting documents.
  • Support and lead the delivery of commercial refrigeration and mechanical projects.
  • Incorporate safety into all design and project decisions.
  • Collaborate with the Business Developer and/or Account Manager to present proposals and win new business.
  • Develop and nurture strong relationships with engineering consultants, end-users, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Track estimates and maintain a clear pipeline of upcoming opportunities.
  • Handover completed projects to Account Managers or the Business Development team for ongoing service support.
  • Research and promote innovative technologies and design strategies for both existing and emerging markets.
  • Provide technical engineering support to the Sales and Business Development teams.
  • Travel of approximately 30%-50% is required.

  • Champion Gateway’s Safety Culture in all projects and team interactions.
  • Ensure compliance with the Safety Management System and support COR audit readiness.
  • Actively participate and lead daily HSE meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Demonstrate leadership in safe work practices, environmental stewardship, and incident prevention.
  • Encourage sustainable practices and contribute to Gateway’s environmental impact reduction goals.
  • Promote conservation and biodiversity in project planning and execution.

Human Resources & Leadership:

  • Set clear objectives and manage performance for direct reports and project teams.
  • Develop talent through mentorship, on-the-job training, and performance improvement planning.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and participate in hiring, onboarding, and orientation processes.
  • Oversee employee development, ensuring skill growth and continuous learning opportunities.
  • Approve time off requests and manage team schedules to maintain operational coverage.
  • Foster a positive team culture based on cooperation, respect, and professional growth.
  • Represent Gateway Mechanical Services with integrity in all client and team interactions.

Other required duties may be assigned that fall within the parameters of the primary responsibility of the position.

Qualifications

  • Project Management Professional Certification an asset.
  • P.Eng in Mechanical Engineering or eligibility for registration is an asset, or; Journeyman HVAC-R Certificate accompanied with 5+ years on the tools.
  • 5+ years of experience in project management, business development, or technical sales within HVACR or mechanical services.
  • 5+ years Business Development experience in mechanical contracting.
  • Strong understanding of commercial refrigeration and mechanical systems.
  • Proven experience in budget and schedule management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Knowledge of HSE best practices.
