We currently have an opening for a full-time permanent Avionics Conversions Lead Hand. Reporting to the Avionics Conversions Crew Lead, the Lead Hand position supports the Crew Leader by assisting in supervising day-to-day conversion activities, providing technical assistance, and problem solving. The Lead Hand will also have an active role supporting each project from induction to completion and assisting in maintaining the overall schedules.

In this role your duties will include the following:

  • Responsible for the safety of employees working on your project, promoting our safety/professional culture through the day-to-day operation of the crew;
  • Work across a wide variety of tasks and situations, including troubleshooting, product improvement, new installations, aircraft acceptance and delivery support, customer interaction, and production.
  • Work independently and take initiative in complex problem-solving situations, applying sound technical judgement and practical solutions.;
  • Coordinate with multiple internal departments (Maintenance, Engineering, Planning, Stores, Purchasing, and Avionics) to ensure all facets of assigned projects progress effectively
  • Liaise closely with Crew Leader and Engineering on product improvement, drawing updates (RFs), processes and procedures supporting continuous improvements;
  • Assist in the supervision and direction of Avionics conversion crews, ensuring a high level of productivity and quality and that workload is distributed appropriately.
  • Assign day-to-day workload and monitor productivity objectives, adjusting priorities as required to meet project needs;
  • Take initiative in troubleshooting discrepancies which arise within your area of work;
  • Ensure all paperwork within their scope is completed in an accurate, timely matter and adheres to the Company Policy/Procedures and CARs;
  • Actively participate in non-conformities and Quality findings, and effectively communicate them (RFs) with the CL, Engineering and QA as necessary;
  • Interpret drawings, EOs, and engineering documentation accurately in support of aircraft conversion programs;
  • Monitor critical project/program milestones and provide status feedback;
  • Ensure the assigned crew are equipped with the correct tooling, while actively identifying and recommending new tooling to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A thorough knowledge of Conair administrative functions including standard practices, technical safety, regulatory, material procurement and handling, production, prototyping, planning and scheduling, design and quality assurance procedures;
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required;
  • Problem solver, analytical and a team player;
  • Competency in the use of Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Training/Education:

  • A minimum of 10 years experience as an Avionics technician is essential;
  • Q400 Type rating considered an asset
  • Previous experience as a Lead Hand is an asset;
  • Must hold a valid AME ‘E’ license.
