Junior Chemist - Technical
About the role
The Junior Chemist will oversee the entry of formulations into our system and future adjustments of customer compounds to meet all their requirements, in a timely manner. They will assist with development projects alongside the Segment Managers/Chemists and R&D chemists from the ground up which will include: (compound formulation, mixing, sample prep, testing, industrialization, raw material sourcing and pricing).
Responsibilities:
- Work under the guidance of the Technical Manager to develop customer formulations from scratch based on a set of requirements.
- Enter recipes into the ERP system with all required documentation and be a general resource to all Segments.
- Follow the lab batch and production trial mixing.
- Work with the Purchasing group to source customer specific raw materials as well as pursue cost saving opportunities.
- Work with the R&D lab to learn and operate all lab equipment and assist in conducting studies. This will include the preparation of reports based on test results.
- Work with various groups to troubleshoot production related issues as well as assist in process improvements.
- Monitor the processing capability of issued recipes and adjust if necessary.
- Review new MSDS’s for problematic conditions and pass on concerns to Health & Safety Manager.
- Ensure MSDS’s for compounds are available to the customer.
- Serve as a resource to the segment team on relevant issues.
- Is a safety advocate; lead by example by complying with all plant and Occupational Health and Safety policies.
- Participate on action teams or task forces as required.
- Other duties as required.
Required Experience, Education, and Skills:
- Bachelor of Science degree and/or equivalent education/experience.
- Minimum of three years of industry experience.
- Experience in rubber industry would be a definite asset
- A team player with strong decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organization and communication skills.
- Able to work independently in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment
Salary: $58,000 - $70,000 a year
