About the Role
We are looking for a Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) Technician to join our team at Buckhead Vancouver. In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring, supporting, and evaluating food safety and quality programs across our operations. You will oversee inspection and audit procedures to ensure processes and finished products meet all corporate standards as well as federal, provincial, and industry regulatory requirements. The FSQA Technician plays a vital role in safeguarding food safety, maintaining product integrity, and protecting customer trust by ensuring compliance and driving continuous improvement in quality assurance practices.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the update and implementation of the HACCP / SQF Programs
- Maintain and update the Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures
- Pest Control knowledge
- Good Manufacturing Practices
- Approved Supplier Program (raw material audits)
- Foreign Material Control knowledge
- Allergen Program management
- Plant Sanitation knowledge and practices
- Chemical Control knowledge
- Product Quality Assurance (this involves sample preparation, cook test, visual, organoleptic and possibly tasting of products) - candidate must be able to eat meat and fish/seafood products
- Product quality (visual standards, label standards, adherence to specifications)
- FSQA Customer Complaints review and answer
- Food Defense and Security
- Assist in Employee Training of FSQA Programs, Policies and Procedures
- Assist in Implementation of FSQA Audit Program - SQF Audits
- Provide assistance when necessary for product evaluations, plant visits, and supplier/customer communication to assist other staff members.
- Assist as needed in any manner capable of during emergency situations the Operations Director determines are paramount to the business
- Secondary contact for food regulatory agencies (specifically CFIA)
- Maintain the Raw material and Finished product specifications
- Obtaining raw material ingredient specifications
- Assist in completion of other QA Department functions
- Available to work flexible hours as needed by the business
- Complies with Sysco's Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met.
- Is willing to work safely with minimal environmental impact and understands the importance of reporting all hazards, incidents, and environmental spills immediately to their Supervisor.
- Understands that they play an integral role in their own safety and that of their colleagues and is willing to speak out when hazards are present.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
- Comfortable working in a cold and sometimes freezer environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years' experience working with quality systems documentation & administration in a CFIA/FSIS inspected facility.
- Minimum two years meat and/or seafood industry experience at a federal CFIA/FDA meat and/or seafood plant (preferred)
- Bilingual in English and French is an asset
- College Diploma in Food Science or Microbiology
- HACCP Certificate, SQF certificate (an asset) GFSI Scheme
- Strong understanding of Sanitation, SOPs, Pre-requisite Programs, HACCP/Preventive Control Program, CCP's and GMP's.
- Knowledge of meat, fish and seafood processing and meat, fish and seafood processing equipment and simple laboratory testing procedures.
- Basic knowledge of food safety policies including HACCP, SSOP's, GMP's and CFIA/FSIS regulations and SQF.
- Excellent computer (MSWORD, Excel, Power Point, Visio), written, problem solving and verbal communication skills.
- Basic math and computer skills required.
- Good communication skills (respond to emails and customer complaints) in English.
