At PETRONAS Canada, we are committed to building Canada’s energy future – and people are fundamental to our success. We foster a culture of open collaboration and empowerment across our team of skilled professionals, while supporting career development opportunities. We are looking for can-do problem solvers to join our team who are innovative and passionate about driving strong safety, operational and sustainability performance in everything we do. Our unique culture and commitment to growth makes the company a great place to build your career.

The Role PETRONAS Canada is seeking an Industrial Health & Hygiene Lead to champion our health and hygiene program across our Canadian operations. Reporting to the Director of Health, Safety & Environment, this role will define and maintain Similar Exposure Groups (SEGs), implement progressive monitoring programs, and ensure our organization remains at the forefront of health and hygiene standards in the oil and gas industry. You will lead strategic initiatives to protect workers’ health, mitigate exposure risks, and embed excellence into our operational culture.

The successful candidate will be an experienced and effective leader who takes pride in developing talent and is committed to upholding PETRONAS’ culture of health, safety, innovation, integrity, and collaboration within an entrepreneurial environment.

How You Will Contribute

Define, validate, and maintain SEGs to enable accurate exposure assessments and targeted controls.
  • Oversee comprehensive monitoring programs for exposure hazards, ensuring timely reporting and corrective actions.
  • Benchmark against industry leaders and drive continuous improvement to maintain performance in occupational hygiene.
  • Collaborate with operations and safety teams to integrate health and hygiene considerations into planning and execution.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to field teams and leadership, fostering a strong culture of health & hygiene protection.
  • Represent PETRONAS Canada in industry forums and committees to influence and adopt emerging best practices.
  • Lead and/or support incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are collaboratively developed with frontline leadership and tracked through to full resolution from a health & hygiene lens.
  • Monitor health & hygiene performance, analyze trends, and drive the creation of targeted action plans to achieve and exceed performance goals.
  • Provide on-call support when needed from a health & hygiene lens for emergency response, incident investigations, and critical operational needs as required.
  • Deliver special projects and strategic initiatives that advance health and hygiene excellence across the organization.

  • Proven ability to lead complex health and hygiene programs and deliver measurable improvements.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and collaboration skills to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks in Alberta and British Columbia.
  • Proven ability to work independently as a self-starter, with the initiative and leadership skills to design, implement, and drive health and hygiene programs to completion.
