About the role

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Project Manager to support our Business Events (BE) team. In this position, you will provide support to the Senior Director, Strategic Initiatives and work across the Business Events team to coordinate and project manage the business unit's deliverables, ensuring the necessary inputs and connections are made within the team and with other Destination Canada (DC) teams. You will manage and oversee various special projects from end to end including: project planning; coordinating and leading internal, external and international teams through execution; executing and supporting on project plan deliverables; ensuring the teams are meeting deadlines and working from a shared understanding of the business unit's objectives; and ensuring that the Business Events unit and the necessary DC teams have the inputs necessary to achieve the strategies outlined in the BE plan.

Key accountabilities

  • Manage special projects within the business events team from initiation to completion
  • Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope
  • Supervise internal, external and global teams to achieve project objectives
  • Support the Senior Director, Strategic Initiatives in the integration of unit processes and execution of strategic initiatives and plans
  • Manage and execute the unit's Strategic Partnerships, which include developing agreements, liaising with the Partner's management team, and executing on deliverables
  • Coordinate the activities of the team and/or suppliers involved in the development and implementation of special projects. This includes:
    • Assist in the due-diligence process and facilitate management of vendors when applicable
    • Support the administration for procurement projects when required
    • Collect the necessary information and data to inform deliverables and scope of work of the project
    • Document, develop budgets and manage budgets associated to the project
  • Report to upper management on the progress and status of projects
  • Coordination of in-market event planning, activities and delivery including FAMs/site visits and strategic partnership events
  • Prepare, proofread, and edit written work, summaries of proposals and presentations as requested
  • Performs other related duties as requested

What you need

  • Graduation from a recognized university with a degree in business, project management or another specialty relevant to the position, or another combination of education, training and experience acceptable to DC.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in a project management role.
  • Experience in managing complex projects from end to end.
  • Experience in planning, forecasting, and strategy execution.
  • Curious and motivated, with the ability to synthesize information and develop clear, evidence-based recommendations.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong follow-through and the ability to manage multiple workstreams, competing priorities, and tight deadlines with accuracy.
  • Proactive and self-directed, demonstrating initiative, sound judgment, and a results-oriented approach.
  • Strong communicator and relationship-builder, with excellent written, verbal, and listening skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Solutions-focused and adaptable, able to navigate ambiguity, shift priorities, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Professional and discreet, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with care.

It would be great if you also had

  • Knowledge of the tourism industry and/or destination development
  • Experience working with remote teams
  • Experience working as an event planner
  • Experience in managing a budget
  • Experience running competitive request for proposal processes is an asset.

Compensation

Salary range:$80,213 - $100,267

Within the range, the base pay offered is determined by multiple factors, including job-related skills and relevant education/experience. Please note starting salaries for new hires typically fall between the minimum and mid-point of the range, to support internal equity and allow room for progression as employees grow and excel in their roles. The range above reflects base pay only and does not include the competitive at-risk pay program and benefits that we offer!
