Strategy Principal Director - Insurance
About the role
Canada’s P&C insurance industry is at an inflection point. Climate volatility, shifting customer expectations, advances in AI, and pressure on combined ratios are forcing carriers and brokers to rethink how they operate and compete. Accenture sits at the centre of this reinvention, and we are growing the team that helps our clients navigate it. We are looking for an Associate Director to join our P&C practice and lead a major segment of our Insurance strategy business. This is a senior practice leadership role with significant accountability for growth: you will lead strategic engagements and complex transformation programs with top-tier Insurance clients, shape our points of view on the future of the industry, and own the relationships with Canada’s top carriers, brokers, and MGAs at the C-suite and VP level. You will be responsible for shaping and scaling Accenture’s P&C and broader Insurance practice, building enduring client relationships, and delivering on annual revenue targets through high-impact, innovative strategy solutions. You will work alongside experienced executives and Managing Directors who will sponsor your development, but you will be expected to operate with a high degree of ownership and entrepreneurial leadership from day one—spanning sales, delivery, capability development, and talent management. Why Accenture: You will lead the most consequential transformations in Canadian P&C and broader Insurance, with access to global insurance expertise, leading technology partnerships, and the full breadth of Accenture’s capabilities. You will build a public profile through our thought leadership platform, with multiple potential growth trajectories available to you as you scale a defined book of business and grow the practice. The Work: Client Advisory Build and sustain trusted VP and C-suite relationships across Canada’s top carriers, brokers, and MGAs, serving as a thought partner on growth, margin, and operational excellence agendas. Advise clients on industry trends, regulatory developments, and innovative solutions to drive business transformation across underwriting, claims, distribution, and customer experience. Delivery & Growth Oversee multidisciplinary teams to drive successful outcomes through end-to-end engagement delivery, from strategy through execution and change adoption. Own and scale a defined portfolio of Insurance clients and cross-functional Strategy offerings, driving go-to-market strategies to enhance Accenture’s brand and market share. Lead business development: identify, shape, and sell new work alongside senior leaders. Lead proposals, client conversations, and pursuit materials, and build relationships with client stakeholders that lead to follow-on opportunities. Collaborate across multi-vendor and globally distributed teams to design and implement technology solutions spanning policy administration, claims management, underwriting automation, and customer experience platforms, ensuring quality delivery and effective risk management. Strategic Innovation & Thought Leadership Shape thought leadership on where the Canadian P&C and broader Insurance market is heading, and what carriers and brokers should do about it—contributing original analysis, structured thinking, and a distinct point of view. Champion the identification and incubation of new, disruptive strategy offerings tailored to evolving client needs, including AI-powered underwriting, digital claims transformation, and next-generation distribution models. Contribute to white papers, media publications, and industry forums. Talent & Capability Development Develop others: coach Managers, Senior Managers, Consultants, and Analysts, setting the standard for analytical rigour, client presence, and craft. Shape talent strategies to attract, retain, and develop diverse and entrepreneurial leadership within the practice. Here's What You'll Need: 15+ years of relevant experience, with a blend of Insurance industry experience and top-tier strategy, management, or Big Four consulting backgrounds preferred. Deep expertise across one or more segments: Property & Casualty, Life & Annuities, Workers’ Compensation, and/or Health Insurance. Strong understanding of the end-to-end Insurance business model, including underwriting, actuarial, claims, policy administration, distribution, and customer experience, with demonstrated ability to advise on technology-led transformation, core system modernization, and process redesign. One full-cycle implementation experience preferred. Proven relationship-builder with deep, trusted connectivity to Canada’s insurance market and senior decision-makers, along with the drive to develop more. Boardroom presence and credibility, with the ability to influence and drive change at the highest levels. Proven track record of selling and delivering large-scale strategy engagements, with strong P&L ownership and experience managing a significant book of business. Skilled in solution shaping, executive storytelling, and negotiating complex commercial deals. Strong written and verbal communicator, able to draft a board-ready deck, a concise executive memo, or a published point of view. Strong knowledge of cloud, AI, and data platforms and how they apply to insurance, including leading platforms such as Guidewire. Thought leader on emerging trends in generative AI, responsible tech, InsurTech, and digital platforms. Experience working in multi-vendor and globally distributed delivery models. Crown corporation or public sector experience preferred. A University Degree is required for this position; advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., PMP, ACII, FLMI) are considered assets.
