Commencement Date: August 24, 2026
School District 81 is hiring two candidates to an elementary principal pool. The successful candidates will then be assigned to available vacancies based on the best fit for each school. In this elementary leadership position, you will support success for all learners by working alongside the district management team to align school goals with the priorities of the District’s Framework for Enhancing Student Learning and Strategic Plan. You will lead sustainable initiatives to improve student achievement and create a safe, caring, and inclusive school culture. You will foster an environment of instructional excellence, where staff thrive in helping all students reach their full potential. You have a deep understanding of curriculum and instructional leadership. As a champion of equity and inclusion, you will proactively identify and address barriers to student achievement, creating an environment where all learners feel valued, respected, and supported through inclusive practices. As an active listener and a self-reflective leader, you value input and communicate in an open and transparent manner and meaningfully engage parents/guardians in the life of the school and strive to support the inclusion of all voices in your school community. You demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional learning that strengthens your understanding of Indigenous histories, traditions, contributions, and cultural competencies; and through your leadership, the District's commitments to local First Nations, Métis communities, and all Indigenous students and families will be reflected in the culture, practices, and relationships within your school.
In collaboration with students, staff, families, inherent rights holders and stakeholders, you will develop a comprehensive educational vision and implement it through an actionable school plan. You will utilize both qualitative and quantitative data to inform decisions, guide resource allocation, and establish school priorities in support of student achievement. Additional leadership responsibilities will include managing student records, budgets, staffing, timetabling, instructional supervision, and scheduling, as well as supervising the organization of school activities and supporting ongoing professional development for staff.
As the ideal candidate, you will have extensive relevant experience, educational background, and skills, including:
- a valid BC Professional Teaching Certificate
- a Master’s Degree in Education
- successful primary and/or intermediate teaching experience
- strong knowledge of primary curriculum, learning pathways, the Early Learning Framework, and current best practice in literacy and numeracy primary at the elementary level
- successful performance evaluations and a positive employment record
- a well-developed sense of organization
- the ability to solve complex problem
- the ability to use conflict resolution strategies to support the school team
- a solid understanding of school governance and its influence on school operations
- the ability to work well with others, while respectfully exercising your supervisory authority within a highly complex environment
- the ability to motivate and collaborate with others
- the ability to manage their time efficiently
- the ability to foster and support a diverse school community
- the flexibility to perform new duties as required
The District welcomes qualified applicants; candidates without a graduate degree will be considered, but must be committed to completing the same within the term of the contract. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted as soon as possible after the posting closes; interviews will be scheduled for Friday, June 26.
