They are delegated to perform anesthesia related tasks including comprehensive patient assessments, develop and implement anesthesia care plans, administer anesthetics and medications, manage patient monitoring and respond to clinical situations during surgical procedures.

Description:

The Anesthesia Assistant is a highly skilled healthcare professional (RN or RT) holding advanced certification in anesthesia care and works within the Anesthesia Care Team (ACT), directly supervised by an anesthesiologist. They are delegated to perform anesthesia related tasks including comprehensive patient assessments, develop and implement anesthesia care plans, administer anesthetics and medications, manage patient monitoring and respond to clinical situations during surgical procedures.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a recognized Respiratory Therapy program OR Baccalaureate-prepared Registered Nurse and completion of accredited post-graduate Anesthesia Assistant Program. Current registration with the applicable professional college recognized by the Alberta Health Professions Act. Certified Clinical Anesthesia Assistant (CCAA) from CSRT; eligibility for Anesthesia Assistant membership with CAS. Certifications in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 2200 hours within the last 2-years’ experience in critical care areas such as PACU/ICU/Emergency or Respiratory Therapy experience in OR. Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team with proven ability to collaborate to provide holistic care to patients. Proven dependability and accountability. Computer skills including experience with electronic charting and Microsoft Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in research participation or clinical education preferred. Experience leading quality initiatives. Effective change management skills. Strong problem solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills. Note: applicants who do not fully meet the qualifications for this position may be considered for an approved educational pathway opportunity, with employer-funded training provided in exchange for a return service agreement.
