Position Overview
AnswerPlus is seeking a skilled System/Network Administrator to join our Hamilton IT team. This role is responsible for the management, configuration, and maintenance of our IT infrastructure, including servers, end-user systems, network security, telephony, and mission-critical call-processing applications.
The ideal candidate has proven experience with VMware, Microsoft technologies, Fortinet firewalls, and telephony platforms such as Asterisk, FreePBX, 3CX, Microsoft Teams, This is a full-time, onsite position at our Hamilton office. Remote or hybrid work is not available.
Familiarity with AI technologies and Large Language Models (LLMs), including their use in IT workflows or call-center environments, will be considered a strong asset.
Key Responsibilities
System & Server Administration
- Administer, maintain, and support VMware hosts, DELL SAN units, peripherals, and Windows Server environments.
- Manage Microsoft technologies including Active Directory, Azure AD, and Exchange.
- Configure, deploy, and patch applications across all servers to ensure security and reliability.
Network & Security
- Manage and maintain FortiGate firewalls, including firewall policies, VPN configuration, intrusion prevention, and security profiles.
- Oversee SSL VPN and IPSec for secure remote access, ensuring compliance with best practices.
- Monitor and troubleshoot networking issues, ensuring performance and resilience.
Telephony & Call Processing
- Configure and support telephony/VoIP systems such as Asterisk (SolSwitch), FreePBX, 3CX, and Microsoft Teams.
- Maintain Amtelco systems (Intelligent Series, Genesis, Infinity) critical for urgent call-answering operations.
- Support integration with secure messaging applications to meet compliance standards.
Backup & Disaster Recovery
- Ensure successful execution of Veeam backups, monitor health, and test recovery procedures.
- Maintain disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.
Support & Operations
- Respond to IT service desk tickets in a timely manner.
- Participate in the on-call rotation to provide after-hours support.
- Act as liaison with vendors for troubleshooting and escalations.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain clear documentation of system configurations and procedures.
- Provide reports on system performance, incidents, and infrastructure planning.
Skills & Qualifications
- Eligibility:
- Experience:Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada
- Technical Skills:
- VMware ESXi, vSphere, vCenter (7.0 or higher).
- Windows Server 2016/2019 administration.
- Active Directory, Azure AD, and Exchange.
- FortiGate firewall configuration, VPN, IPS, and security profiles.
- Telephony platforms: Asterisk, FreePBX, 3CX, Microsoft Teams.
- Veeam backup and recovery solutions.
- Strong understanding of networking protocols and IT security best practices.
- Familiarity with AI technologies and LLMs (Flowise, Ollama, OpenAI, etc.) is an asset.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with calm under pressure.
- Proactive, collaborative, and able to work independently.
Working Conditions
- Onsite role at our Hamilton, Ontario office. Remote work is not offered.
- On-call availability is required as part of the IT support rotation.
- Occasional travel to other AnswerPlus locations may be required.
